That's a pretty kickass flask, probably a lot easier to my than the guy with the ones you 3D print and then cast that require fancy taper pins. Definitely gonna try and find some steel square tubing now

I got it at a metal supply store. It was scrap and cost $1 a lb. It weighed 17 lbs.

You could use the left over half of the square section to combine with the flask you just made so you could have a larger flask for bigger castings

WELL DONE GOOD IDEA MY FRIEND. I made my metal one not that long ago. Seems great minds work the same eh. Good post ! Mine is 4 x 6 square x 1/4 wall as it was all I had. A tad heavy has the same heat transfer as yours. Roasted fingers's, LOL

You are welcome. You should set up some page or some way that people can give suggestions how you can improve in different ways and then you pick what you have not yet thought of that might help you.

I've actually managed to do a dozen or so pours with 0 spills, but my flask is still getting burnt up, just from heat radiating off the crucible. Also, might suggest a way to clamp the halves together, I've heard large pours can make the top float slightly, creating more flashing you gotta clean up later

I'm a machinist, that's a combination square. speedsquare is a carpenters tool. That's one of the heads used in conjunction with two others typically, the center head and protractor head. Not used much anymore in the CNC age.

that square tubing must cost a fortune. Also stockholders often don't want to sell a small piece. You must buy a whole length ( 4,8m ). I cast aluminium one .
