    I came up with an idea of an ancient race that all but died out tens of thousands of years ago leaving their knowledge in ruins for the new evolved races to discover. They misinterpreted the ancient texts believing that they were gods and many types of religions were formed. Through time and belief, divine creatures were manifested according to their religion and in time with worship, were powerful to grant divine power therefore Clerics rose up. What they didn't know that the texts weren't gods yet the ancient races were actually talking about were patrons. Otherworldly patrons whom these young races were believing to be gods introduce themselves and made pacts which start the Warlock classes. So the current world believes in nine Cleric gods which were also actually nine Warlock patrons which later infused with magic created nine Sorcery bloodlines. All from the same nine sources.

    With a homebrew setting I was working on, there were nine gods, one for each alignment... but the quirk for the setting was that there were no racial gods, every race in the setting worshipped the same nine, just with them being depicted as the species that was worshipping them. I also do mean that every god had their time in the spotlight. The LG and LE gods were gods of war, but the LG god was also the god of the sun and the Honor aspect of war, the glory that came with victory and the humility of an honorable defeat. The LE goddess though, was the Goddess of the moon, her aspect of war was Conquest. Regardless of how the society viewed both gods, any victory was expected to offer a share of the treasure to the goddess of Conquest because to do otherwise would earn her wrath... and she was not subtle about how she hated being stiffed on her share of the treasure from a victory.

    I had an idea for a town that believes that it is at war with another country and has been for thousands of years. But the war does not exist but that war is the reason the countries are at peace, because they know it is being settled, but during the adventure they find out that there was no war and that leads to some conflict between countries

    I’m designing my homebrew world, and struggling on deciding whether to make pantheons for each race or a set of gods for all. I like the idea of racially distinct gods but feel like it might be too much for the players if there’s 4 gods of death depending on who you ask. And if you do prefer a set for all races, how do you justify all the races coming together to worship them in a multicultural world? Love your vids Icarus

    There's a couple of easy ways to do this. First, have the different races have different names for the same god. We see this in our own history and in a world where the gods are real, it would make sense they have different names depending on their worshipers. The other way to handle it is to have the races focus on different elements of the same god, particularly worshiping different saints to the same god that represent different virtues.

    What are your thoughs on characters asking to worships Gods they created? Ussualy I just integrate whatever God's they want to use, but they sometimes feel out of place. I just don't have the heart to tell my players no when they already made such a cool paladin who worships that God.

    I always caveat players using their own Homebrew with they have to run it by me first. If it doesn't fit with the world I explain why and try to work with them to make something that does fit and retains the spirit of what they made.

    What are the worshippers of koros views on intelligent undead? Do they differ from the mindless skeletons and zombies? Also, would extending one's own life via un death displease the Goddes, since they are denying her their souls?

  • @IcarusGames

    @IcarusGames

    Koros is a patient goddess. She knows one way or another she'll get her due, so extending one's life isn't really a problem. She draws her power from the moment the soul departs the material realm. Her worshippers' souls end up in her realm of Jazar, but all death fuels her even if she doesn't get the soul. Typically when someone dies in my setting their soul goes to the soul realm before moving on to its eternal resting place. When someone on the material plane uses necromancy to animate a body, what they are doing is ripping a soul from the soul realm to stuff into the body as a slave. It's almost certainly NOT the same soul that was in there before though.

    It adds a REALLY dark extra twist to necromancy because you're ripping a completely innocent soul from the afterlife and stuffing it (conscious) into a vessel under your command.

    Adding the parchment paper effect at the end, is there a specific way to do that?

  • @IcarusGames

    The image at the end is from the PDF I made, but you in onenote you can add an image as the background to a page, and could use a parchment image to achieve the same effect.
