This is a good video. Ballistol is great. I use it for cleaning the bore and I wipe the wood down with Ballistol as well. As I understand it, water soluble oil is very similar to Ballistol. I have tried this method at a 7-1 water-oil mixture. The patches were quite dry and the fired patch would smolder on the ground down range. It was really hot and dry. I literally had to go down range and put the patches out to prevent a fire. I think I worked my way down to a 3-1 water-oil mixture, but still had occasional smoldering patches. I agree with randyboone2637 about drying the patches flat. I put my soaked patching on an old window screen that I had laid down flat. It seemed to help even drying from top-down as well as end-to-end.

I hope it works for you. Some use Murphy's Oil Soap and water. There are several different 'formulas'. Thanks for watching.

Good information! I have read about this somewhere also. The advised laying the soaked patching out flat to let dry so the oil water mixture doesn't run to the end of the patching when hanging up to dry.I really don't know it would make any difference, but thought I would pass that along.

I suppose a benefit would be weather resistance. Bore butter gets runny when it’s hot and hard when it’s cold. Changing viscosity of the lubricant might change muzzle velocity.

It can affect velocity and can change accuracy. Thanks for watching.

Dutch Shoultz system is still available on line even though he left us in 2022. I’ve been using Dutch’s system since 1999. Never found a downside

Dutch's systems is worth the money. However, I've used his cutting oil/water mixture and the patch material continues to dry out over time, so much so, that I have to soak them again after a year or so. I started using 0 to 1 water to cutting oil and they stay lubed.
