Ribbon pulling is actually a really really old crafting technique from like the 50s and 60s. I have a booklet that shows you how to pull different ribbons so that you can make silk Christmas ornaments and all kinds of other things if I can find it quickly I will name it here for you it was eye-opening to see how people used to use ribbons in a fun budget-friendly way

I think she came out woderfully! The fringe looks like disco to me and the texture of the ribbon hair makes it look like she has a crimped hairstyle, feels like an 80s pony and super cute ❤

i think it was in the repunzel custom pony video that she mentioned the idea of doing a pony with 100% tinsel hair, i think that would be so cool!! especially paired with doing full shaved ice like she joked about in the trans pride pony video !

I'm so excited you chose to give the pony feathering around her hooves. That's exactly what I thought of when I saw those little fringe bits. I think the ribbon hair was a great experiment.

from my experience most of the time ribbons unravel nicely in the direction they were woven while the other direction is locked into itself on the edges (which you can’t tell just by looking) so if you try to unravel a piece of ribbon and it stops and gets caught on one of the edges, try pulling from the other end! also, the little fringe bellbottoms/stylized feathering turned out super cute.

Using the ribbon threads was an interesting idea. I like how shimmery the hair turned out from it. 😊

The ribbon thread hair makes me think of electricity, it'd be cool to use this technique for a lightning-themed pony or maybe a pony inspired by Jolteon or Zapdos

I feel like the fibers just need more treatment and teasing before they go on the pony so the strands relax a bit. The luster is delightful, and the weight could be great in the right circumstances! For display pieces, I feel like thick strands could be used to conceal a wire that could enable some crazy updos without having to use fixatives, even! Normal doll hair just doesn't play as nice for that, with the texture and translucence

This is such a cool idea, I had no idea this was a possibility! I’ll definitely be using it! I’d been working on my first custom when I’d gotten kind of ‘stuck,’ because I disliked the texture of yarn hair but I didn’t want to have to pay out to order acrylic hair through the internet just for my first attempt at a custom, so this is more helpful than you could imagine. Thank you so much! ❤

Someone here said it already: ribbon hair has a downside. It breaks very easily and you can not comb it. If you need to detangle, use your fingers and something like a knitting needle to rearrange, never a brush as that will make the mess even worse. I did quite a few doll wigs, but only for display, it is absolutely not suitable for kids. Depending on what ribbon you use, it will look more or less like hair. In my experience it looks better when the ribbon feels like soft fabric instead of rather stiff plastic. But it will still be fragile hair.

This pony is a pretty common fakey, you can find them in dollar stores and the like pretty easily. One way to tell is the rooted tail. Real mlp ponies have a folded hank of tail hair that comes out of a single hole.

I know from OOAK Doll makers that once the glue sets you can boil rinse certian types of thread hair to help curl and style the haircut you want, that could help with the curly/kinky texture of the ribbon thread, I do think that the Pony is super cute as is, it but it would be worth a looking into to see if it's possible

I would not recommend the Ribbon Hair for a Toy that a Kid is actually playing with. It is too fragile and get tangled and frizzy to soon. I would have used Hair from Clip in Hair extensions you find everywhere like T€DI or Action (Dollar Stores in Germany). In the Beauty Supply Isle is a Kid section with colorful Hairpieces and Stuff. Hasbro used this Fiber for Sea Ponys back than. I bought one and the Hair is a matted mess. Feels like cotton Fluff.

This is a really cute idea!! Maybe next time you can try using a brush, boil-washing or using a hair straightener to get it to be even more convincing as a hair texture? I don't know if that's something people usually do with ponies or ribbons but I've seen it done lots of times with people using it for dolls with yarn hair, so maybe it's feasible here too!

i have to wonder different ways one could mess around with styling ribbon hair though- i have a pony quite similar to the one you're working with here so i am definitely considering experimenting myself- like, i've definitely worked with trying to style polypropylene doll hair (sigh... unfortunately. my pony here might be using that material) and despite my hatred for that particular material i did learn that at the very least conditioner can weigh it down and make it easier to work with, i suppose as far as ribbon goes it would all depend on the material, so it may be tricky considering i'm just going to have to guess what materials the ribbons i have are, but regardless i'm EXTREMELY excited to look into this possibility!!! i can certainly understand feeling disappointed by the results of projects/experiments, but i have so much admiration for the things you do on this channel-- it's truly so inspiring!
