Congrats on the beautiful 350Z ... looks amazing!!! About the stops, leave the top glass, it will help you shape the acrylic sheet. and if you have an oven big enough to heat it you just put it on top and it will take shape. It is also possible to outline it roughly, say 1 inch above the edges (this will reduce the size of the acrylic sheet) You need an ultrasonic cutter, you will cut it perfectly, both it and you will be able to separate the lens from the stopper. Once the brake cover is shaped, you will need a small amount of silicone to seal it, too much will spread it both out and in, which cannot be removed! You are in the right direction about the black painting on the edges of the stop lights. This hides an aftermarket job! I will be glad to have helped, greetings from Europe! :)

Do you think painting a black border around the inside of the lenses would work? Maybe tape straight lines on the inside edge and paint before sealing. Just a thought though, nice work!

Thanks! And possibly the problem is you have to lay the sealant on the inside so the part you painted will be covered by the sealant and you’ll see the sealant through the lenses instead of the paint :/

when you took out the led housing out of the tailights to repaint them, are you able to remove the bottom reflector to not paint over it?

From what I remember you can, however they are sensitive and don’t come out easy. For mine we didn’t want to risk pulling it out and it snapping so we just painted them

Currently doing this for my secong gen Forester, after the one company that made clears for my tails decided to discontinue making them for good 😭 boutta do the shaping part wish me luck!

If we took the lens off and tried copying it using this method the lens would more than likely crack/snap during the process. If you mean why not do it to the light while the lens is still on, we did that on my buddy’s 370z there’s a video up of that. For the most part it works doing it that way too!

Don’t know the exact size unfortunately we just grabbed the size that looked big enough for two Lens but they sell big ones that you can buy just in case you need tot Ty it a couple of times. Just make sure your kit grabbing one that’s too thick

Not true just looks like it. If you zoom in on their photos you can see the lenses are cracked/gone. Again most clears are made by purchasing tails with clear lenses then taking that lens and putting it on top of stock tails. But Q50s only have red and black lenses. There is no OEM or aftermarket tails with clear lenses. So the only way to have a lens for them would be to make it from scratch like these.
