How do you clean the extruder if you need to?

Good Question Jeana. 😀You can clean it before or after you use it. The dry clay easily wipes off with a damp sponge. I use my Extruder a lot and have never had to clean the tube. Clay does not stick in the tube. I guess if it would I would push a damp sponge through until clean. 😊

Thank you so much for this vido. I had been looking for hints on how to make dies for my clay gun and learned in your video that I can buy ready made ones. I have already ordered them! For so many years I said that in the time I make a handle I can make another pot. Lately I made more mugs and pulled more handles than I wanted to, those days are over now. Hurrah!

I just ordered a clay gun made by The Ceramic Shop. Similar design to the Scott Creek gun. And about 8 different dies. My hand-built handles were terrible so I figured this tool should help. I like the braided handles.

Frema makes a hand held extruder as well, and it fits the shimpo dies. ( I think it’s the same tool )

Hi Marie! Great video as always. Have you used the hollow shape extruder dies? They seem more sensitive to air in the extruder barrel and I am having the hardest time getting an extrusion without air bubbles in the clay, even though it is very well wedged. I wonder if you have any experience with this and any tips! Thank you!!!

Thank you Jessica 😊 I do not own any of those dies yet. I have only watched my friend do it. She didn't have air bubble problems. Did you make sure there was no air on the sides of the tube or the front or back that could get trapped in the clay?

Hi, thank you very much for this video and for all the others you posted, they are very useful and nice. I have a question. Do you think is it possibile to use a silicone extruder gun with very soft clay? The problem could be to wait to attach the handle to the mug, because the handle could be very soft... I thought this way because is cheaper but I didn't try yet. Do you think it could work? Thank you :-)

I bought a Nidec extruder after watching your handle video. Unfortunately it seems to have a 2-1/4" die whereas all the others seem to be 2". Should I send it back?

That is a very good question. I'm glad you asked. Yes the Nidec dies are 2 -1/4. They will rest on the outside of the tube. Where as the 2 inch dies will rest on the inside of the tube.
