On the milk analogy, if you only need one gallon you don't drink a lot of milk. I can go through 3-4 gallons in a week

We use a gallon (well, 4L) of milk per week for a family of four. But we mostly use it for morning cereal, recipes when cooking, making soup, or for tea. We use table cream for our coffee.

Exploration. You can go into wormholes with it and Sleeper drones won't attack you, but Drifters still will, so it affords a degree of security and freedom while exploring sites for their aesthetic and lore-based value.
