I think you're probably right. In Agatha Christie's autobiography, she talks about how her Victorian grandmother taught her 'the Queen of Spain has no legs' and to say 'limbs' instead. Even decades later Agatha was a pretty proper person, but she wrote that even as a child she thought the obsession with avoiding legs was nonsensical. One of the few Victorian rules I have yet to find a reasonable explanation for. 🤷‍♀️

I know it was a 'thing' in the US during the same time period of 1895. When I was much younger, I saw a very old man on The Johnny Carson Show. I must give you credit, first for the absolute artistically humorous concept and then for your delightful execution of this idea. A friend of mine, that I generally think of as a Victorian female Doc Savage, told me about this project. Thank you for doing this. I'd say you've bullseyed it here. I seem to recall that in pre-Meiji Japan the back of a woman's neck was their 'sexy Victorian ankle', or the thighs - especially the _inner_ thigh (shudder) - in Polynesia, not for any intrinsic quality of the area in question but for the _implication_ of impending sexytimes. I imagine there's an equivalent everywhere, like how America considered the female navel in the 60s the same way it still treats nipples. Like your sauna example, total nudity can be unerotic while just that little bit of extra exposure can be scandalous depending on context.

Naw. They are used to these odd genres popping up. This isn't far off from foot fetish channels. Some are very raunchy but many are more staid with just feet in different spaces and from different angles. Some adorned some not. I was lucky enough to have my great-grandmother as a close part of my life until I was 39 years old. In her later years, one of her favorite pastimes was to browse through old photos. Her favorite was a picture on her wedding day, atop a wagon, headed to her new home with her new husband. EVERY time she held that photo in her gnarled fingers she would say through tears, "Your Grampa never did see my ankles until that day." It WAS a 'thing' to her. It represented her virtue and chastity. They were married in 1911 when she was 18 years old. Whether it was a thing to more urban folks, to her in rural America, it was vitally important and anything else would have been scandalous.

My great grandmother died when I was 11 and I can clearly remember her saying how surprised she occasionally was when she looked in a mirror and saw such an old woman looking back at her. In her mind she still felt like she was 21. I've never forgotten it and, since I'm now 69 years old, I can attest to the truth of her observation.

What a sweet story! My paternal great grandma, born in 1885, was getting in a carriage, (or a buggy), and her ankle got exposed. Nearby was a man who saw her ankle and fell madly in love with her on the spot. So he found out who she was and began courting her hoping she'd fall in love with him. She did! Both of my great grandfathers died shortly after I was born but I was blessed to know both of my great grandmothers. One lived to be 94 and she spent every summer with us. She taught me a lot!

As a genealogist, I love family history stories! One of my favorites is how my grandparents met and married during the Great Depression. My grandmother got stuck in a fence, my grandfather was walking by, he said he would help her get unstuck if she went out with him (which I'm sure was a church social or some such thing). They were married three months later!

My grandfather (born in 1921) said more than once that when he was a child he and his friends used to go to the tram stop to watch the ladies' ankles, as they had to lift their skirts slightly to climb onto the trams. Admittedly, this was in pre-civil war Spain, which was pretty conservative and deeply religious.

The thing is though....this is just going to bring in all the weird foot fetish people. When I did research for my bachelor's thesis in history, I came across an "article" in a local newspaper from 1902 where a particularly charming gentleman made some complaints. It is a line of work and deserves respect. It is not as "easy" as some might think to make that sort of content and to become comfortable with a line of work that commoditizes your body to such a degree. It's nice when social media people acknowledge that. Brava Bernadette! The historical costume juxtaposed with the modern setting with the use of a drone had me giggling for an hour. I am assuming the results were beautiful (I did not want an OF account to tempt me winking. I know how much work it is to take a teasing photo. Here's a source. My grandfather (born in the 1800s) told my mother(born in 1928) that he could not understand the way "modern" young women were so ready to expose themselves.
