Making an Octave Mandolin (part 1 of 2)

This is just a quick overview of my building an octave mandolin, not so much a tutorial. I do offer guitar building classes, Archtop classes being one of them. Check my website for more information and feel free to comment or ask questions! The next part (2) will be me showing you the finished product and giving a demonstration. Hopefully that will be in the next week or so! Thank you so much for watching.
I am not a video maker, I am a woodworker!!

This one is a 20” scale, 14 fret join with a smaller body than yours……. At night I think to myself: “I am a mandolin maker. I am a mandolin maker…..” over and over again. The endorphins I get from just thinking about them are almost overwhelming……

I've never liked playing Mando because they're just too small and fiddly. That octave Mando looks just right.

Very nice. I'm on my 5th OM prototype but I sticking with flat soundboard and back, though I do induce a slight arch on both, and I'm sticking with the bound oval sound holes like the early Gibson As. I like how you carved using a profiler

Any recommendations for a sealant on a torrified neck that will not be finished?

Tru-Oil works very well. Super thin, seals and adds visual depth/lustre but not thick or shiny…..
