My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.
On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!
I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.
Enjoy browsing!

Oh, yeah, people have been wearing wigs and extensions for literally thousands of years! They just always try to make it look like their own, so you don't hear a newscaster or Egyptian or 18th century nobleman or civil war wife or actress on the red carpet broadcasting the fact that it's not all their own hair. :)

I never asked her why hehe maybe she wanted to feel it was her own her she was wearing. and also the pantihose would match her hair so she didn't have to cover it with more hair.

Nice tip! I use old tights that have holes in it that I would've throw away in the garbage. They are nice to pin thru, to mold and matches the hair pretty well. I also fill the rats with fabric scraps. Is pretty much the same idea but without covering the hair rat with hair.

I’ve had my grandmother’s Bakelite vanity set for some time. I always assumed that the round lidded object with a hole in the center of the lid was for powder or hair pins. Nope, I think it’s a hair receiver. I’d never heard of this before, so it led to my learning about the creation of hair rat(t)s. Your video came up in my search, and it was very informative. I use the modern hair doughnuts for 18th century to get a front pouf, I bought 2 cut them open (so that the doughnut becomes a straight stick shape) and stitched the ends together to make a long tube. For an Edwardian ring you'd probably need 3 and then just sew them all together to make a giant doughnut.

In many antique vanity sets from that era, there will be a dish that has a lid with a hole in it. This is called a hair receiver. One would take the hair that was gathered in the brush & put it in the receiver. I was told as a girl that the hair was used for pin cushions because the natural oils in the hair would keep the pins in good condition. But, obviously, the hair could be used for the hair rat too!
