this is by far the best tutorial on making acrylic box i've seen. at the first 10 seconds i was thrown off by the heavy accent but instructions were so good i cannot stress how good this video is

@Justin Emo Howlingwolf you're right and we all have accents! I think it's ok to say someone has a thick accent. Unfortunately talking about accents has become tabboo but not everyone talking about accents or doing them means anything offensive by it :) I like your point though! :)

I have a tip to share: clamp sheet between two flat pieces of wood flush with edge when sanding. Having wood on both sides makes a perfect square edge to glue.

Awesome instructions. You know this technique very well and have the perfect video.

Two recommendations. First, a straight edge ensures a straight cut. If the seam where the side meets the bottom has any curve (like I saw in your video), the bottom won't sit flat on the base, creating a stress point that can crack later. Second, flame polishing is not recommended because it creates stress in the acrylic that can eventually craze. Otherwise, nicely done.

Sinto Joseph hamsters only bite when stressed or defensive so the owner probably wasn’t looking after it properly. They rarely bite if handled correctly. Hope both are ok now!

Amazing video! If I am using acrylic material to build a 5 sided water basin, the dimensions are 2.5ftx2.5ftx1/4in, I plan on filling it with 37 Gallons of water. Will this design withstand the water pressure of 36 gallons?

How do I size my aquarium according to my acrylic thickness of 5mm?

My only change would be, glue one seam at a time, and have it so the seam to be glued is level but pointed towards the ground with a slight cant to oneside.so there is no need to move the needle. The solvent will flow on its own.

Hi Sinto, wonderful video! Do we need to anneal the sheet before glueing? My small tank cracked repeatedly. And I googled it and people said annealing is needed to relieve residual stress. I laser cut the sheet. Have you tried annealing?

I make Acrylite acrylic for a living, and often laser cut. Laser cutting, and the cement cause the annealing. You should just have the ends edge polished, not laser cut. You won't have the problem then.

Just finished building my acrylic fishtank using aquarium silicon sealant. The level of adhesion isn’t the best, I know silicon glue is better for glass but it was all I had. Any tips for what I should do to strengthen or secure the adhesion?

Your aquarium is a ticking time bomb it can blow apart any time. Only use acrylic sealant for acrylic aquarium build. Silicone sealant is weak on acrylic.

It is problem with acrylic tanks that if you don't use enough thickness as per the size of the tank, the acrylic sheet would bend and even crack out. Which also applies to glass tank but they just burst out. So in either cases enough thickness of the material should be used which can with stand the pressure of water being filled in it.

Plexiglass acrylic is used for underwater aquariums, you see in large public aquariums however for small projects most people go for cell cast acrylics.

Was wondering where to get cell cast clear acryilic for aquariums where do you get yours and how expensive are the sheets im looking to make multiple size tanks can you help?

If you in India I can suggest looking for your local hardware stores or acrylic dealers if you looking for much thicker acrylic 20 to 40 mm and higher, try the big dealers like laxmi acrylic +917778814338

No silicone glue does not bind well with acrylic it will come out at some point.

acrylic gluing are like welding so not possible. you can try detaching them manually

screen guard for aquarium very funny.. you can only polish away the scratch in acrylic aquarium.

Couple of comments to help. freehand cutting with a circular saw is dangerous and not to mention will give you a horrible jagged edge. Please o please use a straight edge like a ruler to guide the circular saw and get a perfectly straight cut. Instead of buying all the unnecessary tools like a buffer and all the sanding pads, a straight edge is a must to cut in straight line. Also, cut parallel sides at the same time so they will be the exact same size.

True. But I think used a guide edge of wood underneath the acrylic. Atleast I thought so...... yes lot of care to be exercised....safety glass, mask etc

You can but don't forget to make top bracing of the aquarium.. Otherwise 12mm glass won't withstand a 3 foot high and 6foot long water pressure..
