Making a Wooden Fishing Lure using Hedge Wood

Sometime when I'm out fishing I find this awesome wood called Osage Orange or Hedge. The outside isn't anything impressive but as soon as you cut into it there's a bright golden yellow color. I've been wanting to make a fishing lure out of this wood for a while I just haven't gotten around to it til now.

Yeah I hate losing lures that way but after a while you kinda get numb to it. Gives me a reason to make more I guess lol

I burn some of the lures i make. If you build the lure with grain running vertically instead of horizontally, it will give you crawfish pattern.

Also if you have a lathe, turn that knot. I bet there is a unique bowl, and a couple of lures in that log, if it is cut up right.

Osage Orangeis hard as Superman's(The Clark Kent version) knee cap. Another pretty yellow, hard, and native to the US wood, is Mulberry.

Does mulberry change color after being cut the same as Osage? Because I’m still leaning toward it being Osage. It is a very hardwood but I’m no expert and with the piece that I cut it floats quite well. Clark Kent lol

@@TreysArt Mullberry will darken once exposed to sunlight. It is more yellow than what you had. Kind of flakes when cut, not slices like you had.
I would have gone swimming. Especially because it was do hot.
