You weren't kidding about the 5 stages of grief there. My wife had a solid minute of trying to figure out how to get a seam ripper into the hands of your past self. Glad you made it out the other side with a fashionable, aesthetically delighting waistcoat. A huge thank you to Ellie for guest executive-producing this episode! P.S. The slow-mo bed dive in the Brooklinen ad was majestic and what all bedlinen commercials should aspire to.

I was gunna say skip the plastic garbage and find a vintage all-metal machine. Usually much cheaper than a new plastic one. (I had one of those singer “heavy duty” ones. The plastic gears were completely shot in under a year and it wasn’t remotely actually heavy duty. Older singers much better, but I totally fell in love with Necchi machines and technically have 6 now. 💜

@PricklyAlpaca this magnificent jacket is giving pirate-core/Victorian boss-babe aesthetic and I FREAKIN LOVE IT!! 🥰 Ps. A tip for dying fabric, it’s best to start with a fabric that’s the lightest color of the gradient you want to make, and use a darker fabric dye. To create the fade, first have the fabric be wet and dip the wet fabric in the dye pot gradually while the dye is warm but not too hot (depending on the fabric it could mess up if it’s too hot) leaving the fabric in the dye at the ends longer to make it the darkest to your desired shade.. 😎 Also It might help to dye the cut pattern pieces to better control the gradients~ 💖

Without the faux leather lapel it really does look a lot better, also I love your red velvet top you’re wearing in parts of the intro and then underneath the cool new vest! Your designs just baffle me from time to time, like, I know people make these cool things bc I see them in KZread videos and on renfaires but like.sometimes seeing it for from "you know what could be cool? A pirate vampire chair vest" to a. Beautiful sketch, to a pile of fabric pieces, to a finished & beautifully styled costume? I sew too but sometimes the process still has me bamboozled like I’m watching a magician explain his trick and then I’m still surprised when he pulls a bunny our of his hat or something. I’m rambling. Okay bye 😂

If it could make you feel a little better, I also just got through the five stages of grief but with my personal knitting project. Spending hours upon hours knitting away only for the finished piece not to be what I've envisioned sure is something. One facet of being a crafter in general that wasn't talked about often is the failures along the way until we can arrive to something we really liked. That's why I liked tuning in to yours and Rachel's channel when I was making something to remind myself that it's fine to not 100% like what we made. A moment of silence for the time we spent doing something we regret, it wasn't wasted, because we learned something.

14:18 I Watch Thé Click and bought an Emotional Support Demon. Housemate brought the package to my sewing room where I was working. 5 minutes after Lil Fellow was opened I realized I needed to undo like an hour of work. The family joke is that he immediately determined that was the place I needed emotional support and he refuses to leave. Lil Fellow might have noticed I am not less chaotic everywhere else. However the day I had to repair the sewing machine because my aunt had an “I need to hem these slacks before I go on a 6 month trip” quest did have me questioning the hobby

The Sanrio sewing machine is a whole mood!! Love how the upholstery jacket turned out - ditching the troublesome collar and lapels was a good idea. Side note: for the $17 cabinet, I think it would look really nice if you stained the piece of wood over it too match the darker color, and maybe varnished it. A bit of extra work, true, but it would really pull the two pieces together and make it look more unified and intentional.

If you’re in the market for a new sewing machine, I would recommend the brand Husqvarna. They’re a little pricier, but they’re super reliable. My mom bought one USED in the like the early 90’s and that baby is still going strong. When I moved out I bought my own, the Viking Jade 20 model (also used) and I have no complaints! It’s a worthwhile investment.
