Making A Smaller External Caravan Grey Water Tank (Self Contained) - My Tank Is Too Heavy For Me

I've been wanting to make this modified self contained caravan grey water tank for quite a while. I've struggled with my original grey water tank because I'm staying at more campgrounds with out a dump station and it's too heavy for me to lift into my car boot after more than one day.
This new tank holds about 20L of water and sits nicely under my caravans grey water outlet.
I add a pipe attachment to the tank that links to my existing grey water hose, and add a smaller pipe fixture for my air hose.
I'll test this out for a while and if it's exactly what I'm after, I'll probably modify a second tank too.

Hi Karen if you drilled in the lids only easy to have a few bottles and can change fittings to have a nut on the inside of the caps far more secure. A little fold up suitcase trolley will help getting to dump station. All the best.

That is true.. and would be easier to use the sealant... my theory was the 2 holes wouldn't fit on the lid.

As i commented on another video, over here we roll our tanks behind the vehicle to the emptying area, by hooking the tank to the ball hitch, make sure the end without wheels is up off the road enough to avoid bumping the ground. We can get three or four different gallon sizes here at all RV stores.....no lifting heavy tank A pint’s a pound the world around....🙋🏻good luck

Good idea. Just a FYI for self containment if your waste tank is smaller than your fresh water tank it's supposed to be monitored with a tank level gauge.

I roll the waste water tank to the tow hitch and tow it to where I need to empty it. Makes a bit of noise if on tarmac roads (off the public roads, obviously), but then it's just a case of unhitching and dumping it out :).

To minimize daily trips, I would put a small 12v bilge pump into that small container or something similar so that the grey water flows into it and then it's pumped automatically into larger barrel that already in place for transport.

Could have used the cap on the side to drill trough. Just off center. Then you just need a realy small tube for the air to escape.. No need for drilling in your tank.. Also much easier to switch tanks just switch caps and your done.

Not sure if I saw you drilling correctly, however if I didn’t make sure you drill clockwise and not anti-clockwise (with the drill in reverse), this way you’ll ensure a quick clean hole. Apologies if you did drill correctly, it was difficult to see.

Well it seems NZ are very strict with grey waste where here in the UK we are told by the environment agency to water our gardens with it in time of drought ! As William Cox says, and provided its not disposed of directly into waterways its will do more good than harm The drainage from highways is much more damaging particularly if there are no interceptor traps
