Making A Sissy Bar for the Shovelhead

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Ive done an older video on making a sissy bar. Here's another one! This time for the rigid shovelhead!
some pretty barebones metal fabrication using a diy forge to bend things!

Thanks! I have done this so many times that I often forget that other people don't get to do it so often! Bending metal and making it do what I want is one of my favorite things to do.

I was always taught to have sissy bars the same angle as the front forks.

I think it's a lot of preference! I prefer my sissy bars with a little more kickback than this, but everyone likes what they like!

I've used 9/16 hot-rolled or flat stock for all of my chick sticks. I hail from a time when guys arc welded re-rod for a short grab rail. Personally, I really like South Bay (LA) styled sissy bars. Dick Allen ran one such sissy bar on his long bike ("Locomotion"). Freddie Hernandez did likewise. Freddie built springers that resembled Dick Allen springers. You Canadians have some interesting and groovy ways of working metal! That sissy bar looks great! Good luck on the rest of that Shovel project! Best -- W

Wow thats almost prof quality. I just bought a drag specialties to go in the brackets already on the bike. I dont know how they got the smaller one on because when I yanked it out after many attempts it was 1 1/2 inches too wide and no way it would fit. Then I took it off a few weeks later along with the 550 dollar mustang fastback seat and sissy bag and went back to just my le pera barebones seat. Huge waste of money. Your plan is better but I cant do anything with no garage and have zero motivation even if I did have a garage. Those fancy places have these big wheels where they can drop those bending posts into the huge wheel. I would have liked one tall with the top part thats bent back but nobody is ever on my bikes but me so it would be even more money wasted. I like how you always just make what you need. Time consuming but you clearly have learned a lot about fabrication that most harley guys cant do. Cheers

Thanks for the support! I didn't get out to mama tried. I don't know of any shows in Toronto but may 20 is Roll the Bones in Montreal. This shovelhead might be in the show if everything goes according to plan!

I really wish KZread wouldn't mute videos for having songs in the background while I'm working in the shop. My taste is all over the place! Thanks for sharing!

@@moonbats69420 You betcha! My tastes in sounds are eclectic -- ranging from Garage to Psych to Big Band to Jazz to MoTown to Folk/Country AND Western. Yeah, KZread needs to rethink a few things. Take care, brother.
