MAKING A SIMPLE CERAMIC CUP

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video i'm making a simple ceramic cup from a 1 piece plaster mold. I started with filling the plastic cup with clay,to prevent it from flooting to the top. I also fill up the small edge of the cup. After that i applyd some release grease to the table. When the plaster is poured, you can take out the plastic cup in about an hour. Make sure to dry the plaster mold for a couple of days (or hours) ,depending on the moisture and the way of drying. After that you can pour in liquid clay. I left the clay in for about 20 minutes , which created a good thickness of the cup. When the clay cup is dried, it can be fired in an ceramic kiln. You can see the end-result in the last shot.
You can leave it like this for decoration, or you can add ceramic glaze on it, if you want to use it as a drinking cup.

Did you use mold release grease on the cup? Grease can clog the pores of the plaster, does it work? Or did you use mold release soap?

You need to let the mold tottaly dry before another use. So usually you create one Mother mold and from it make few production molds. This way you can create many copies in one sitting

Yes plaster of Paris is fine for the mould and the grey liquid is just liquid clay, just wait some time before pouring out the excess liquid from the cup

Noticed that he intentionally didn't give information about clay slip type ! However the ceramic clay slip powder can be bought the thing to keep in mind however is all of the ceramic clays must be fired in a kiln so if you don't have a ceramic kiln then you would have to focus on alternatives like making a 2 part mold and casting a cement version but you cant drink from it
