Making a Rocket Motor - Scenic Cut

Ғылым және технология

I made this rocket motor mostly over the course of a single day on January 19, 2023 and I fired it May 20, 2023. The motor was designed to be an L1085.
The liner to closure seal failed and the case melted, but the monolithic grain, easy to manufacture nozzle closure, and modified propellant chemistry all looked very promising.
Thank you to ‪@joebarnard‬ ‪@andrewadams6473‬ and ‪@rocketpoweredkeith‬ for the static fire support!

Dude it’s like watching Edison in his lab. If you are not in the payload going up, I fully expect you to be a Launch Director in the big leagues. Your no-go decisions are epic. Thank you for posting again.

Cherry Limeade sounds so delicious. Kinda interesting how fast combustion "stopped" after the case failed.

Could it be a centrifugal air bubble remover instead of a vacuum machine?

Cool video. One thing about rocketry, even if it is a failure it is always exciting. I bet there was a lot of good data and learning going on though. Also, are you going to NSL this weekend?

Unfortunately no NSL for me - the day job rockets need attention too.

Sick workshop setup! So interesting to see the oscilations in the burn rate, I have some guesses (pressure rise, burn rate rise, pressure containment failure and repeat) but I would love to hear your thoughts! Also the video without commentary or music reminded me of primitive technology :D

I’m sure you’re well aware but watch yourself with gloves on around a lathe. My dad’s a machinist and almost got wrapped up in one when a latex glove he was wearing caught up on a piece. We also knew someone that got into it with a driveshaft in a fishing boat and broke their arm in like 20+ pieces and tore their ear off… needless to say I don’t fuck with rotating assemblies. Stoked to see more rocket content! I’m thinking of getting into some research motor stuff this winter after I burn through my current stash of commercial loads.
