Thank you, Jack. I used to make and sell silver jewellery in a small way. I'm 78 now and have not made anything for several years. Your videos here have inspired me to make some more, so wish me luck.
First time I’ve seen Namejas Braid done quite like this! Nice job.
Thank you for sharing! Always wondered how jewelry was made!
Osm video
Love that soldering! Never saw it done that way before.
This is a Unique work ❤️
I am already make this rings bro, keep it up. Very interesting work.
It's really cool that you even made the wire yourself.
Very nice I love this ring!
Thank you so much. It’s wonderful 🙏💕
Muy lindo ! Felicitaciones!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just beautiful🤩👌👍

It’s beautiful!
Great video, thanks for the inspiration!
Amazing and beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
Very nice! I tried making one - started with copper wire to save $. Out of 4 tries one came out almost ok. I rewatched the video and think that my trouble was at the very begining - I didnt make the 2 strand twist tight enough. Trying again :) Once I figure it out will try with silver. Finding a shape block might be a challenge, but the flat look on the top is essential! Thank you for posting!

it also took me 4-5 attempts to make something "almost acceptable" lol. My issue was that using 20gauge wire was just too small for my shape block, so I had to make an insert to hammer correctly
Good job👌 keep it up 👍
I want one 💗 that was so amazing

Silver purity is not expressed in Karats but in percentage. Pure silver is 100% silver.

Sir, how do you know silver polish on steel pot,?
I want to know about the solder and flux.. pl provide a video on this..
What the heck is 24k SILVER? Are you referring to .999 Fine Silver?

Hmmm, indeed. Fine silver is really soft. Not sure it would work harden even if polished in a tumbler. But then, I'd start with premade wire in this decadent west. Might use a draw plate rather than a rolling mill as well. But, it's his ring, he makes it how he wants really. I really need a life...make jewellery and watch others making it. This Jack is a dull boy.

@@brucetapley8657 It's not really a mistake. In India you see a lot of gold and silver marked with a "C" meaning meaning karat. I've seen plenty of jewelry from India with a, 18C, 22C or 24C stamped on the inside.

What is the name of the block you used to hammer the twisted wire to half round? I am looking for one for myself. Thank you!!

Isn't it called a swage block?
Fabulous! Question; what was the material you were using to solder on? It almost looked like fiberglass! Of course it couldn't have been.. so, what could it be? Thanks so much for the share. I truly appreciate an artist that takes the time and energy to share their skills and to do it for free! You're amazing! T

I'm talking about the white substance that you were soldering on. (Thought perhaps I should clear that up.)
@GoldSmithJack

The white substance is metallic cotton platform and this kind of platform is adjustable so that accrording to my need i can adjust the cotton and use however i want ;-)

Very nice man! 👌 Can I ask what thickness of wire did you use, an what length was it before u started twisting?. Thumbs up from Ireland my friend 👍👍
@GoldSmithJack

The thickness was 2mm and the length of the wire depend upon the size of the ring
@Ken_Dalton

@@GoldSmithJack wow 2ml thickness! That's heavy, now I understand why u used 24kt pure silver.. It would be much more difficult with sterling silver I think. Thank u for letting me know.. Great channel man, wishing u all the best for the future 🍀

@@Ken_Dalton It would be without a doubt more difficult with sterling silver but with more frequent annealing it is doable :D

How can you get the twisting so regular? I mean how come the distance between one peek and another is exactly the same? Thank you!
@emilyluc9690

Perhaps pulling it a bit to give tension and distributing the twist over the whole thing?

This is very cool! 💖 I did something similar making a bracelet. I'm a novice Silversmith with much to learn so forgive my dumb question. At 0:07, your video displays the words "24 carat silver". That's a bit confusing to me because "carat" with a "c" is a weight measurement (for gemstones, etc.). "Karat" with a "k" is a purity measurement of gold. Silver is identified by marking either "925", "935", or "999", for example, representing the % of its purity (999 = 99.9% pure, etc.). I've never heard of 24 Carat Silver (with a "c" or a "k") so what am I missing? Again, sorry for the dumb question but that threw me off and I want to be sure I haven't missed anything while learning so far. I'd appreciate your telling me about this. Anyway, Thanks so much for sharing your cool ring!👍😎. Cheers! ☺️

Yes, you are correct it's 999 not carat forgive me for this 🙈
What is the white stuff that's holding the ring to be soldered
@gayle8153
3 жыл бұрын
I think its commonly called fiber blanket, and it is used for fusing glass and other kiln-related uses. I think it's made from ceramic or something like that.
какой то важный момент не снят,в чеп подвох? я так попробовал,у меня не получилось. откуда эти спиральки появились при втором скручиаании?

What do you use for cleaning after soldering ?

I am confused. On the materials you listed clay metal. Are you using that instead of the actual metal? If you start with the fine silver - you start with wire? What size wire? Completely confused!
24k is it the same of Fine silver 999.99 or 9999.9🤷🏻♂️

Just rolling mill
What size wire did you use?
@GoldSmithJack
3 жыл бұрын
Length of the wire was 13 Inches and the thickness was 2mm :)
I wanna know how to do that but I'm too broke to afford any of the equipment and I wouldn't know how to even start haha
@randomhobbies9141
3 жыл бұрын
Honestly all you need to start is a hammer something hard and flat that you can use as an anvil(a second hammer would work a peice of metal anything) copper wire (from any hardware store) or copper pipe. Dont let anything hold you back if you desire to make something plan to make that something and you will achieve.
950 sounds better
May I ask what gauge/ size wire you use, I tried it and looks very different?
@petersmedley459
3 жыл бұрын
Diana, keep trying different gauges and you’ll see different results. Traditionally, in Latvia the ends are hammered/fused into a solid piece leaving only the middle braided, allowing for really thick, heavy gauge wire to be used to stunning, dramatic effect. Look for the film The Pagan King, it’s about Namejas (the name I know for this braid), there’s quite a story and a lot of symbolism to go with a traditional Latvian ring in this braid...
