    Thank you, Jack. I used to make and sell silver jewellery in a small way. I'm 78 now and have not made anything for several years. Your videos here have inspired me to make some more, so wish me luck.

    Very nice! I tried making one - started with copper wire to save $. Out of 4 tries one came out almost ok. I rewatched the video and think that my trouble was at the very begining - I didnt make the 2 strand twist tight enough. Trying again :) Once I figure it out will try with silver. Finding a shape block might be a challenge, but the flat look on the top is essential! Thank you for posting!

    it also took me 4-5 attempts to make something "almost acceptable" lol. My issue was that using 20gauge wire was just too small for my shape block, so I had to make an insert to hammer correctly

    Hmmm, indeed. Fine silver is really soft. Not sure it would work harden even if polished in a tumbler. But then, I'd start with premade wire in this decadent west. Might use a draw plate rather than a rolling mill as well. But, it's his ring, he makes it how he wants really. I really need a life...make jewellery and watch others making it. This Jack is a dull boy.

    This is very cool! 💖 I did something similar making a bracelet. I'm a novice Silversmith with much to learn so forgive my dumb question. At 0:07, your video displays the words "24 carat silver". That's a bit confusing to me because "carat" with a "c" is a weight measurement (for gemstones, etc.). "Karat" with a "k" is a purity measurement of gold. Silver is identified by marking either "925", "935", or "999", for example, representing the % of its purity (999 = 99.9% pure, etc.). I've never heard of 24 Carat Silver (with a "c" or a "k") so what am I missing? Again, sorry for the dumb question but that threw me off and I want to be sure I haven't missed anything while learning so far. I'd appreciate your telling me about this. Anyway, Thanks so much for sharing your cool ring!👍😎. Cheers! ☺️

    Honestly all you need to start is a hammer something hard and flat that you can use as an anvil(a second hammer would work a peice of metal anything) copper wire (from any hardware store) or copper pipe. Dont let anything hold you back if you desire to make something plan to make that something and you will achieve.

  • @petersmedley459

    @petersmedley459

    Diana, keep trying different gauges and you’ll see different results. Traditionally, in Latvia the ends are hammered/fused into a solid piece leaving only the middle braided, allowing for really thick, heavy gauge wire to be used to stunning, dramatic effect. Look for the film The Pagan King, it’s about Namejas (the name I know for this braid), there’s quite a story and a lot of symbolism to go with a traditional Latvian ring in this braid...
