Making a Pumpkin Door! *an actual tutorial whaaaat*
HALLOOO!!!! (ween)
So as the last days of October approach, I am hard at work on my last project of the spoopy season and needed to upload something a bit more laid-back. So HERE YA GOOO! The pumpkin door from Nightmare Before Christmas! You could consider this part one of two, if ya like.
I tried my darndest to make this more of an understandable tutorial rather than the chaos I generally tend to portray. Hopefully it's helpful if anyone decides to recreate it! I had a ton of fun and it only took me about a day, so... TALLY-HOOOO

Me, in denial, living in a tropical country: Ah yes. Autumn. Pumpkins. Sweaters. Crunchy leaves. Yes. Indeed 🥲
Pro-tip for Rachel (and other sewists out there): Hardware stores sell these Strong Magnets on a Stick things that are shaped like mops, but they pick up metal bits. They're supposed to be used for getting washers and bolts off your garage floor or whatever, but NAH, the BEST USE for them is getting all the needles and pins out of your floor before you step on them.
The yellow sweater with the black pinafore is EVERYTHING!
I hope Rachel put a clause in her agreement (to sell the house) that she will not be held responsible for damages due to pin-in-foot injuries. 😆
If Rachel ever does merch she should make something that says "who put me in charge of me" also something floor troll related for sure.
When you said “it looks like a very long butt. And you know what that means” I fully expected you to say “It’s gonna be a long ass day.”
Fun fact from your local archaeologist: When excavating an American historic-period site that was once a domestic structure, finding straight pins and buttons are a given. So. Many. Pins. And buttons. Therefore, I like to think of it less like ever-present hazards and more like my contribution to the archaeological record.
Seriously, no need to apologize about the “small project” or the shorter video (which I didn’t think it was). This video was awesome! We LIKE short projects we can do, especially last minute! I can picture some one with several uplit trees making a few versions of pumpkin faces and having a small “spooky forest” each year!
I was so glad to see you wore a respirator while hot carving that styro sheet. Those plastics emit toxic fumes, folks need plenty of ventilation, or like Rachel, wear proper PPE.
Can vouch for the pins outliving you. I bought my home 10 years ago from an elderly couple who had lived here for over 40 years. I am CONSTANTLY finding pins stuck between floorboards and behind trim, in cupboards and closets, and sometimes even inside the walls. Carol's sewing legacy lives on!
I like how binx has now decided its her month to shine...
I can’t believe October is almost over. It has gone by WAY too fast
Cookie cake: “Creppy”
“It doesn’t have to be exact”
"Who put me in charge of me?"
What about a nice, comfy, padded stool to sit on when using your blackboard, instead of having to scrunch down? Also, I feel you need an accompanying pointing stick to complete the effect.
The balancing act of buying a house and still working is so impressive (just did the same thing in June, I know the pain! ) 🎃💀🍁
Don't you worry, any video length is just fine! ESP when you're that busy, like it's super duper ok. <3
Rachel, you’re not alone with wanting to try the Doors when you were young. That’s Escapism, all the Millenials are doing it.
Something that always stuck with me about the setting of Nightmare Before Christmas is the heavy use of texture in stop motion. In Halloween town the environment rarely has smooth edges and its all looks cracked and detailed. Even the hills, trees, and buildings match this.
