Making a Photobooth: Ep 117: Exploring Photography with Mark Wallace: Adorama Photography TV

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

www.adorama.com
Adorama Photography TV presents Exploring Photography with Mark Wallace. In this episode, Mark shows you how to create a photobooth setup for your next party or corporate gathering! The key to this is the white foam core boards, also known as V-flats or bookends. These allow the flash to bounce so you get great light from only one speedlight. You also should use a wide-angle lens to fit many people in the pictures!
Mark uses his PocketWizard PlusIII's to trigger the camera and take fun pictures. If you don't have wireless remotes, you can also use a shutter release cable to achieve the same results. Using Lightroom, Mark is able to quickly create a slideshow to show the guests their photos. In the next episode, Mark will show you how to do that to make a big impact at a party, corporate event or even a wedding.
AdoramaTV features talented hosts including: Mark Wallace, Gavin Hoey, Joe McNally, Joe DiMaggio, Tamara Lackey, Bryan Peterson, Rich Harrington

Hi,I'm wondering how you did the automated borders and adjustments ? Absolutely love this idea for party's ! But is a the wireless Nikon trigger with delay not a better way of triggering ? It also use autofocus and white the delay option the timer doesn't show/the people being photographed can put it a way for the picture. Thanks in advance, And greetings from the Netherlands !

As always well done, Mark - you rock! BTW, a cheaper alternative to expensive 1inch thick 4x8 foam core art boards is to use 1.5 inch thick polystyrene (Styrofoam) boards from your local builders store (Home Depot, Lowes, etc). If you decide to paint them, mix water and PVA (4:1 ratio) and first prime the board. Mount w/8x10” angle hanger bracket (10” side vertical) & 2”+ bolt (nuts thru polystyrene vertically), wood screw into 2x4” block. Search for Sue Bryce V-flat on KZread for videos...

you can do that is using a remote or the self timer but they are as not as conviant . the remotes usually have short cords and self timer doesn't have enough time. However you can do that with the YN RF603 flash triggers as they also funcion as wireless shutter release

Thanks for the Great vid. My only real comment is can't we do this with out the pocket wizards. (kind of pricey) Just use the IR remote? I'm not sure how that would work with the auto focus, but honestly I'd rather have it on manual anyway. I'd hate for the camera to hunt for focus and cause a delay. With a wide angle lens the DOF is pretty big. Maybe put a piece of tape on the floor for near focus and the back drop be far focus?

Great idea! I want to come to your Birthday Party to see how this booth works out! I'm afraid the tripod would get knocked over against the foam board which knocks over the laptop...what a disaster it could be with "too many happy guests". I'm not knocking your booth but I would rather staple it to something that fits flat on the floor like a 2 x 4. Happy Birthday to you. I hope your Photo Booth catches some great photos! The Pocket Wizard Plus III Transceiver sounds great!

No, you don't need a pocket wizard. Any compatible remote trigger (preferably wireless) or the cameras self timer will do. The self timer option is the least desirable since the camera has to be touched to take a picture.

I built a photo booth that is controlled by the apple remote. The laptop is facing the people taking the picture so they can see the result immediately, and snap more pictures. The laptop ran the Canon software for tethered shooting. I'm thinking about adding an external display aimed at the crowd. The video was great.

BTW, for those with a limited budget and cannot afford $370 for the PW Plus ii ($68 for cable), consider the Oppilas RW-221 $18!!! Yes, it also uses long-range 2.4Ghz frequency and includes the button half-push to pre-focus lens before shooting. I love my Pocket Wizards for flash and can handle $149 per transceiver but paying another $68 for the cable seems gouging when its free and included with the $17 Oppilas RW-221. Heck, buy a handful if you're worried about reliability...

uh, no it probably isn't. To connect my NPT-04 triggers to my Westcott studio strobes: a regular old PC to 3.5mm cable. I tried Amazon, but sorting through 20,000 PC cables isn't easy. It took like 30 minutes before I gave up. At the Adorama web site, in less than 60 seconds I found they didn't have it, then went to B&H and they did (also 60 seconds). The point is, you have to actually know something about the product. Adorama and B&H do. Google and Amazon search is just a stupid text search.
