Making a Modern Corset Cover to Prevent Historybounding Mishaps! 😳

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to make a fast, easy, pattern-free corset cover with modern-inspired styling! This is a great instant gratification project, one that can be made in just a few hours, even completely hand-sewn! I designed this corset cover to be worn under all of my historybounding outfits, with an adjustible neckline and removable straps, so that it can fit under all sorts of necklines.
I love historical corset covers, but they are built for the higher necklines of Victorian and Edwardian clothing. This little gal is made to work with pretty much any kind of neckline, so it can be worn as an actual corset cover, or worn under historybounding clothing to protect the wearer's modesty or to hide modern undergarments.
This corset cover is very easy to make, with a simple rectangular design inspired by a Roman stola. Already, in the short time since this has been finished, it's become my historybounding wardrobe staple!

Hah! Thanks 😂 Luckily, it wasn't TOO revealing, and I'm not particularly modest (30+ years as a dancer), so it could've been worse!

Honestly I think it's cute as a top on it's own! A fluffy top and a belt is really just the more modern version of that 'look how small my waist is' illusion that's been going on for ever.

looks great Jacki! always love a video with some good violence (against fabric) in it😂 God how I hate how modern linen is woven! the little breaking threads when you're trying to just get a nice, even, on grain line, drive me insane! bring back linen looms!!!!

@@FantasticalFolliesCostuming especially when it's a simple matter of just not using cotton looms for it! Absolutely ridiculous!

Wait what? We should be able to rip linen like cotton?

  • @dancooper-jones

@@therewillbecatswithgwenhwyfar you can, yes. Ripping it does create a bit of a warped edge and can be difficult to deal with afterwards. It's not a pleasant experience with modern linen.

@@dancooper-jones I had no idea that previous weaving linen would've made it easier to rip. I definitely don't need wonky seams from ripping anymore than I want wonky seams from cutting. Lol But I will join you in the movement to call for the return to linen being woven on linen looms!

Just got home after "issues," and met with two FF videos. It's a nice pick-me-up even if it is at the expense of an actual wardrobe malfunction. Nice to have this garment in mind while working on my closet crossover.

I just made a cute one piece corset cover from the (1905) Edwardian Modiste, by Frances Grimble. Cute fast, and oh so easy...I also used scaps and bits of left over lace trims.. Love your videos... 😅

@FantasticalFolliesCostuming just remember you have to use the rulers or tapes in the back of the book. If you don't the patterns turn out WAY too small and don't fit correctly. I learned the hard way doing patterns from Grimbles books. Each book has its own rulers. The garments I have made have turned out Beautifully.
