Thanks for explaining the process of medal making using casts. Seems like a lot of work, doesn't it.
NICE. I can see myself doing this with scrap aluminium for decorative purposes!
What was the binder you used?
It’s a Shame they swapped out the coin and not show the one they actually poured 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. Even if it was incomplete with holes it still would have looked good 👌🏻

Miscast. It happens. Perhaps solder the voids?
What power use for casting and what liquid mix with power.

Generally speaking, in die-casting machine models from 88 tons to 130 tons, the motor power alone is about 18KW~25KW. We have 3 X 88T die casting machine in our factory which used to make medals, keychains, badges, coins, bottle openers everyday. Here is automatic die casting machine work video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/opWDpcqQaJjHpZM.html

I am pretty sure the original was made with the lost wax method and not sand casting.

No, I am fairly confident the original was made with sand casting. There are historical examples of even finer details that were cast using wax on a slate base, and those get detail easily that fine, if not more so.
