we recycled a flat scree tv that the picture tube went out however the LED lights still worked. My husband built a box around it then added extra supports at top and got tempured glass on top ... taaadaaahhh it works great and saved space in the landfill

I replaced my workbench's twin-tube fluorescent light fixture (2x4 ft, 1200x600 mm) with an LED panel as you did, but I mostly do painting on glass at scales that don't require such a large area, so I used 2x2 ft (600x600 mm) for the replacement. That left a 2x4 ft hole in the top of my workbench, that exactly fit the dimensions of my strip cutter board. Perfect serendipity!

Hi Ernest, glad you found it helpful. LED is the way to go for sure - good white light and no heat, what’s not to like?

Hello! I love your channel and your tutorials are so helpful! I have a question about making a light table- Do problems with paint cleanup happen on the polycarbonate protector that covers the LED ceiling light? I worry about the porous nature of plastic vs glass and the paint getting embedded in the poly cover.

Yes, absolutely, I cover the plastic front with a sheet of clear toughened glass to protect it. The paint will make marks on the white plastic if it’s not covered properly 🙂

Thanks for sharing this. You mention using as a way to photograph your work. Great idea never thought of. However, I'm not a glass painter (yet) and make most of my work using textured, clear glass. The texture disappears on a light table, because the light source is direct and not picking up the edges from an angle. Any suggestions on mitigating this problem?

Hi Jeffrey, when photographing try placing the textured clear glass at an angle away from the flat light table to catch the textured glass better. Sometimes direct light just burns out the detail, so a dimmer can help with that too.

One question: You mention photography with the LED panel, but when I use a modern DSLR or cell phone camera I get dark bars on the image. I've had the reasons explained to me but it seems to be inherent in the LED and camera electronics characteristics. Do you not have this problem?

You’ve got to sync your shutter speed on your video camera or digital camera to your AC current. In the UK it’s 240volts at 50 Hz so my shutter speed on my video is 25 frames per second so it’s in sync with the AC oscillations. If you’re filming at a different shutter speed you’ll get bands as described. 👍🏼

I’m not sure. I just adjust the dimmer switch on my light box until it looks right on camera. LED lights are closer to daylight white than florescent lights, so I prefer using those. 🙂
