Making A Lexan Rear Window For Gizmo

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

First off I would look at different brands if buying a side by side. My Kubota has serious problems. Finally made the rear window for Gizmo. Shows how easy it was to make and some tips about working with Lexan. Started working out the first side door also.
Here are a couple of the items I used.
The Bora Centipede amzn.to/3EzMlKD
The exhaust bulkhead amzn.to/3V2gMOZ
The cutable exhaust pipe amzn.to/3hSdeQQ
The exhaust pipe sealant amzn.to/3OahUhl

    That looks so sharp. You'll be toasty. Just saw the weather forecast and depending on where the bands set up you may be using all your equipment. Stay safe and warm. We're in a secondary belt off Lake Erie but the wind needs to be more north-to-south to get us but it's coming, if not this storm then soon.

    Beautiful! Thanks for making this video. I have turned my airconditioner hole in the wall into a window because it's on the south side and I need as much sunlight as I can get in this tiny apartment. So I put a thin plexiglass at the outer edge of the box against, what looks like that diamond shape screen on your Gizmo, but they're smaller diamond shapes. And I don't know what I did wrong, maybe I didn't cut it enough to fit because it buckles in the middle sticking out toward the front end where the room is, and I think I may have to take it out to recut it on the edges. But I have this thicker plexiglass like the one you have there, for on top of the wood frame around the box. I'm going to put hinges on it, and like you were doing to insulate, I was thinking to put a thin strip of that flat rubbery plastic stuff that you find in rolls at the dollar store for putting on the bottom of cabinets for dishware. I hope it works. So yea, you gave me some inspiration to get back to it and redo that thinner piece of plexi that's closer to the outside so that I could seal out the weather. P.S. If you're wondering what I'll do in the summer for airconditioning, well, I heard there are in-room, plug in the wall, air conditioners...some new technology, that can keep the place cool. I think I'll invest in one of those.

    Yes plastic will expand big time in the sun. Polycarbonate will stand some buckling but you have to be careful with acrylic (plexiglass) that can shatter. Best to leave plenty of clearance and not fix it solid. There are many efficient ac units available these days that can vent through a hose. Thanks for watching

    @@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 You know, you are SO correct about this and I am so glad I came across your chanel because I now know what the heck I'm dealing with. As I look at that piece of plexiglass in the end of the box window in the wintertime, being Dec. 25..by the way, Merry Christmas.. I notice how it fits perfectly in there, straight. Whereas when it was sunny and warm (on that south side) before now, it had buckled so it stuck out into the box with a curve rounding out through the middle. I am at a place where now I have to figure out what to do about that because I can't cut it seeing as it fits perfectly in while it's shrunk from the cold. Hm.

    @@Belialith Merry Christmas. You could probably just have a piece of glass cut 1/8 of an inch undersized and use window points to locate it with silicone caulking to hold it there and seal it. Most home centers will cut it to size.

    I had a job where I cut a lot of poly carbonate, I found that a coarse tooth wood blade for the jigsaw worked best and I was cutting two half inch thick sheets at the same time. And a 24tooth thin kerf blade for a Skilsaw.

  • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023

    @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023

    I found the finer tooth blade gives an edge that doesn't need deburring. The fuzz wipes right off. I haven't had any luck with a circular saw. The heat generated by a wood cutting blade actually melts it leaving a terrible burr. Plexiglass on the other hand cuts fine. You must have a better blade. Thanks for watching.

    Luckily I don't have my UTV anymore, but I thought about doing a Lexan windshield and back window and upper doors...since the manufacturer of my UTV never had a hard cab option, and their windshield and rear window were ridiculously over-priced a Lexan option would have been what I ended up doing as well. Nothing wrong with a DIY Lexan windshield and back window and door windows.

  • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023

    I went with the glass windshield because it takes a beating that would scratch lexan but $4400 for a set of doors with seals, shipping, and tax from Kubota is ridiculous. I have no idea what they get for the back window. I think these will do the job once I get it all worked out. Thanks for watching.
