Quick note, totally confused that Ohm's Law bit. What you need is the power equation, which also has letters in it, and a triangle, and deals with electricity, but is distinctly different. None of us are electrical engineers, but you probably could have guessed that...
Also, regarding LEDs: yes! They only work in one direction, Brian and Jason were constantly swapping back and forth the connections, so if it looks like they had it wired backwards, know that them swapping it to the correct direction was cut for time.

    The Modern Rogue try with the lemons actually still plugged in you wouldnt put the battery in and then take it out and then use the taze function you leave it in while youre doin it so all you really did was what you got results for you got minute current in the capcitor and got minute results do your same lemon set up again but with the way ive stated. its more of a battery in use when you hold the button down the battery puts its current in and when you discharge it does just that cdusing it to die its not a storage unit like a battery its just a minor safe place before use if you get what im saying

    You could use a transformer to convert some of the volts to amps. It might run more effectively if you use lemon juice instead of whole lemons since you'll be able to control/manipulate the distances between the cathodes and anodes so you can get the most juice(pun intended) out of it for your materials.

    Loved the episode. However Ohm's Law has nothing to do with the Watts of a circuit. Ohm's law simply states the relation between resistance, current and Voltage: Resistance =voltage/current (R=U/I) The law you're referring to has a similar formula and triangle, but this is the power. Which is Power(Watts)=Voltage*current. I couldn't resist not stating this as a Bachelor in electrical engineering. Congratulations on the 100th video though! Here since the start and loving this channel!

    On the topic of electric laws, at the beginning (after the intro), Brian said that they were going to create electricity, yet the law of conservation of energy (First law of thermodynamics) states that energy can’t be created, only transferred or transformed. Still loved he episode even though it will get some perfectionists like myself. Thanks

    You're using Zinc from the nails and a thin copper wire. You need much more surface area. Go look for Zinc flashing, sometimes called soft zinc, that will get you the surface area you need on the zinc side. Copper side, switch to pennies or just buy some thin sheets of copper (copper clad PCBs can be cheap). Limes (pH 1.8-2.0) will preform slightly better than Lemons (pH 2.0-2.2).

    That's what they did. They pretty much increased the surface area of 1 lemon battery by a magnitude of about 16. This, however, does not provide enough POWER to charge the capacitor quickly enough to overcome the bleeding the capacitor experiences and the voltage loss from the indicator LED.

    another thing to do is simply increase the lemons/limes... even if you need 1000x more lemons then you had it would be pretty funny to see. as well as removing the led/shorting it out to prevent any power loss through that.

    @DickButt, the big problems are definitely current and capacity, but current can be increased by doing what Munden suggested (and by hooking more batteries up in parallel), and capacity can be increased by using more metal and more acid (which is also mostly solved by Munden's suggestion).

    Also squishing the lemons a bit lets out more citric acid, meaning the bridge between the connections through the acid will be more consistent, decreasing the resistance by reducing the amount of not-acid the electrons have to pass through to get to the other terminal

    to add to what thermophile said, IF the cathode was pure zinc you could in theory eat and be fine (although it would taste worse and worse the longer you had the zinc in there. But because they used galvanized nails (steel nails with a chemical-zinc plating) it probably wouldnt be the best idea to eat it, i know youre not suppose to inhale fumes given off by galvanized steel because its toxic, i imagine the same goes to eating it

  • @thermophile2106

    ŦheŁauręnŧ Zinc fumes are not “toxic” like lead is, it is mostly just finely divided pieces of zinc and zinc oxide, that will trash your lungs. If you get too much it can be toxic, but that takes a few weeks of exposure. However, there could be other metals mixed with the zinc. Source: I melt zinc frequently in my blast furnace, and did ma research.

    You guys should revisit this idea but with the following changes: Use aluminum foil instead of galvanized nails. You have a bigger reduction potential that way, thus resulting in higher voltage. You should also try to use copper plates, or just pennies. You don't need lemons, just an acidic solution for the battery to work. Connect more of these batteries in parallel to get more current out of them

    A good visual to explain what volts and amps is a dam filled with water. The amount of water behind the dam is representative of voltage. Amps is represented by a pipe leading out from the damn and the diameter(i.e. flow rate) of the pipe determines the amperage. You can have a million volts from lemon batteries, but if you are only discharging it at .01 amps then it won't be able to do anything

    I am no expert but two improvements come to mind to increase current. 1. Greatly increase service area. For example slice up the lemons and use sheets of metal. 2. On individual lemons bring the positive and negative electrodes closer together. Thereticaly it should lower the ESR (basically resistance) and hopefully increase the amps. I would also recommend reading about Standard Electrode Potentials and look at some tables of metals. Finally if you want a full proof homemade battery try a nickle (coin) paper towel Copper sandwitch soaked with bleach mixed with salt. I tried this once and got .5v and 300mah. This similar to an aluminum air battery only the bleach is like a super charger. This can power a small motor, and might make a cool episode. Hope this was helpful.

    Because they probably film a bunch of segments in one day for different videos. Come in, do some lemon junk, some trash bag weapons, make some hooch, go home. Repeat. A lot of these require a setup and a long wait, so he probably films a bunch of them at a time to save time. There's no point setting up a lemon battery and just going home. No, work on another video while you wait. The hooch took weeks, some of the improvised weapon s take hours to dry or cure... etc. It's just good business and common sense, also you can often see other projects in the background from other videos.

    @insanmonster6 жыл бұрын

    Here are a few things that I think might help you out a bit. If you can determine what the capacitance of your capacitor is you will be able to determine how much charge is stored in the capacitor. This equation is q=CV where q is the charge (in coulombs) C is the capacitance in Farads (you will probably need to convert from microFarads to Farads) and V is the voltage. Since you know what the voltage of a AAA battery is and if you can determine the capacitance of the capacitor you will know what amount of charge is required to fully charge the capacitor. After attaching the lemon battery to the capacitor, you will need to measure the amperage flowing into the capacitor (clamp on gauge works best for this and can be found at any hardware store). Now, amperage is just a measure of the amount of charge flowing per time (Coulombs/second) and by knowing the amperage and the amount of coulombs required to charge the capacitor the required amount of time to charge the battery can be determined. (Amperage=Coulombs/second-------plug in amperage and required coulombs from equation q=CV). This will give you a rough guess so that you don't have to sit around for 24 hrs waiting to charge if it should charge in just an hour. Another issue that I believe that you are having is that the LED is acting as a short circuit and is allowing any charge that you might be building up to dissipate through it. I would attempt to remove any unneeded components in the stun gun to prevent any parasitic loss. I would also increase the number of lemons and connect in parallel (to increase amperage). Another method could be to try different household items that might be able to provide a larger current. I have not tried these but it intuitively makes sense to use more of a liquid to increase amperage due to the increased mobility of the electrolytes in the solution. (Try Coca-Cola, salt water, bleach or lemon juice)
