@@zeemanknives Thanks mate!
Lovely knife, really well proportioned, great video to watch! My only critique would be that you should've masked off the wood when polishing the brass. Right now you can see that the pores of the olivewood have filled up with black gunk near the guard. Which is a shame because wild olive is such a subtle (and imho very underrated) wood!

Nice work! Would probably look even sicker with a false edge at the upper half of the spine
@zeemanknives
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. Yes, I usually do false edges, but because of the full bevel grind I decided against it.
Beautiful knife!! nicest I've seen. I would have added a 2nd rivet at the tang, but maybe that's overkill
@zeemanknives
2 жыл бұрын
You could if you wanted to...depends on your requirements. Few things to consider...firstly, the tang is quite thin towards the back, so you would have to drill extremely accurate to drill trough the tang. Secondly, the tang should be long enough to balance the pins evenly on the handle...but that means you'll have the change the shape of the handle to a straighter handle to accommodate the longer tang. Thanks for watching
Knife turned out really good! I like it! My recommendation would be to use time codes for longer videos like that. Cheers!

Hello Mike, thank you for watching. You will see in my later videos I moved over to voice over comments instead of typing it out. The drill bits i useis a brand called Ruwag, I think it is a local South African product, but it is the Industrial version in drillbit range. I know Alpen is also a popular choice.

Really nice work, what is the wood? and has it been stabilized? also what do you use on your buffing wheel? regards from Scotland
@zeemanknives
3 жыл бұрын
Hello Tom, thank you for watching. The wood is Wild Olive, but this block was not stabilised...although stabilised wood definitely does offer its advantages. The compound I use on the buffing wheel is a standard buffing compound I buy at my local hardware store...in this case it was a buffing compound made for brass.

Love the knife, also a knife maker from South Africa, I knew it when I saw tge brand of your temper oven haha. Random question, do you use methods seen in Red Beard Ops's videos?
@zeemanknives
3 жыл бұрын
Hello Jonathan. Thank you for watching! Whereabouts are you based? Haha, yes the "tempering oven"...is probably a standard issue item with most South African families who enjoy camping in a caravan. To answer your question: In some of his vids we use very similar methods yes...biggest difference would probably be me finishing my bevels on a bevel jig instead of my grinder. I just get much more accurate results with my hand files...but if you are proficient enough with a belt grinder to match everything up perfectly then nothing stops you. If I can give credit to knife makers who influenced me on KZread it would be: Slavik Tely Walter Sorrels Gough Custom Thank you guys!
