I've been loving this series thus far. Been considering putting together a Ghostbusters costume for a while but there are so many elements to it, it's a bit jarring. This helped a lot though, I'm excited to try building one of these myself.

The real thing you approximated with test tubes are called Nixie Tubes. If i recall correctly, you've stated you wish to get more into electronics. You should look for some nixie tube-based projects. I'd say they are probably intermediate skill level, but i think you'll like the result.

Nixie tubes! That's it; I've definitely heard that before. I've seen Nixie Tube clocks that are fantastic.

Also, the things you thought were resistors are indeed resistors. The silver metallic cylinders are capacitors, and, get this, the orange disks are *also* capacitors.

I've been doing your belt gizmo project. But I have a question about the LEDs. I picked up fairy lights from harbor freight that has 8 blinking modes. The lights are copper and seem that in a row of every 4 lights 1&3 and 2&4 are connected. At least on one blink pattern. The issue is the spaces between the lights are so long and the overall length is incredibly long. Is there a way to make a custom new LED strip so that I can use the original battery compartment/ computer chip? I'm not electrically apt a tutorial on this might help others wanting to learn simple electronics. Thanks.

I too lack that knowledge! Other than looping the extra wire back and forth on itself and securing with lots of tape, I'm afraid I'm not much help.
