When I ordered Tim’s watercolor pencils I told my husband I wanted to save my shavings. He just grinned and rolled his eyes. While he appreciates that I try to use all my crafty goodies he thinks I go too far. Your video validated my idea. Thank you so much! I somehow missed Jennifer talking about it. I bought Set 1, and this is exactly how I used the pencils my first time. Turned out well. I left the wet shavings in a palette. I wish I had your palette.

I’ve got all 2 sets ordered (I actually got 2 full sets coming because I got such an amazing bargain) and I was already planning to do something like this and now I can’t wait :-) You are SO right about the Distress color palette…. My fav thing is color continuity across mediums. Love it ! The quality of all the products I have used in the Distress line have been fantastic. Idk what took me SO long to get on board!!

I havent jumped on these yet, but this looks like an awesome idea, its fun to see you organize things and make swatches, theres something so satisfying about doing things like this. I had planned on doing this as well and I’m glad to see that it works. lol. I am still waiting for my pencils to arrive from Simon and I already have one of the pallets, so I will now go order the pencil sharpener. My current one is a large electric sharpener which won’t work. Thank you for sharing this!

The first video I saw about these pencils I told my husband that I should find something to put shavings in the be able to get use of these full pencils. I just couldn’t see throwing away the pure pigment shavings. Yours is the 2nd video I’ve seen doing this and I’m looking for my pencils in the mail so I can make a palette of my own. I usually don't get hung up over shavings or tiny scraps of things etc (b/c otherwise I'd obsess over EVERYTHING) BUT - in this instance it just makes sense and works. And even if a person doesn't want to make a palette this is proof that these pencils have a TON of life in each pencil so sharpening them won't shorten their lifespan if that makes sense IMO

What an awesome tip! There is nothing wrong with being OCD (Obviously Compulsive Designer)! I WISH I was more like that. My husband claims I have HSD (Horizontal Surface Disease)…if I see a horizontal surface, I WILL place a craft item on it! I like that the sharpener provided very fine shavings, which seemed to be easier to work with and liquidized easier. Your videos always make my day. Thank you!

the sharpener is great - tho it honestly wouldn't matter for this. The shavings will absorb the water regardless if you let it sit for a while ;)

I first saw this exact method for saving the shavings on Tami B.'s KZread channel, and another similar method on another TH maker's YT channel where she used 1/2 pan watercolor pans magneted inside a Distress mini archival ink tin with the plastic divider removed. All ways work, and are brilliant - I think saving the shavings is genius because there really is a lot of usable material that would otherwise be thrown away, and you've just made yourself a Distress watercolor palette! What's cool about these no-wood, all-pigment "lead" pencils is that the wrapper has little slits in it that you can peel back gradually to expose more pigment lead, so you won't get paper shavings in with your pigment shavings! I smashed the Take My Money! button the day Tim introduced these pencils and got all 3 sets, now I just need that alcohol ink palette to make one like yours!

Although this looks like a great idea, it because these pencils are woodless, they will last longer than any of us will love. You can either scribble on paper, then pickup color. Or brush to tip. Just seems like a lot of work for the same pallet as inks etc. have fun with your new pallet

I've shown both ways, and like I said in the video this just worked since I wanted to sharpen the pencils anyway so I wasn't going out of my way to sharpen and make this palette and FOR ME this palette makes perfect sense since this is how I prefer to use them anyway

I used to LOVE IG - and promote it heavily. They've changed it so much that I'm not much of a fan anymore. I still post there and follow a bunch of people but my FB page is way easier to keep up with and navigate now (which I never thought would happen b/c FB is a cesspool LOL - but my little corner for Prairie Paper & Ink is a good spot 😉)

Read up on OCD. YOU DON’T HAVE OCD! OCD controls your life and you can’t think about or do anything else. It’s hard getting up in the morning because you know the day is going to be filled with counting and checking and washing and scrubbing your hands until they are raw and bleeding. OCD requires medicine and therapy and being properly diagnosed by a psychiatrist. I’m glad you don’t have OCD because I do and it’s a horrible way to live. 😢

there's a big difference between mild/borderline OCD (which is actually quite common in a large percentage of people and yes I am one of them) and full blown OCD which yes is debilitating and VERY difficult for those living with it. I "make light" of mine b/c while it's annoying (to me) I don't need medication for it (right now anyway but that may change) but it does affect day to day life but isn't debilitating (it's just the icing on top of other issues I deal with that aren't relevant to what I post online). That said I never have nor never will make light of those living with OCD and all the challenges it creates.
