Making a Dip Waist Edwardian Belt + Free pattern

Edwardian Era clothing is so iconic. These belts are a wonder accent to the corseted silhouette of the time and I absolutely love using them as a historical accessory! I've created a free pdf pattern in four sizes that you can download and use to sew your own belt! Seriously these belts will make your waist look tiny. My historical costuming wardrobe is not complete...jk it has a long way to go..but as far as easy historical hand sewing projects this one is up there for me. It also fits right in with a cottagecore or dark academia wardrobe, depending on the colors you choose of course.

Probably 18th century tie-on pockets... and medieval style leather belts. But I'm definitely going to give this belt a try!

My chatelaine! Although I love my fob watch too. I've just made a belt like this and like you have no idea why I hadn't made one before - so useful. Going to make another in a paler fabric and may try your pattern as mine does sit at the waist.....I'm forever having to straighten out the boning!

The belt is lovely and you're right, it does make a great addition to the outfit.

Oh I love seeing support from creators for other creators especially when it works to the common goal of the common good! And white women have definitely played a huge part especially white upper class women have played a huge part in the oppression of anyone who’s basically not white and upper class.

This is a fantastic video. The little accessories like these belts are so simple but also just a touch too finicky for my less then stellar math skills to draft correctly. And you almost never see patterns for them, just finished items. Thank you so much for this. Also as far as favorite historic accessories I am so enthralled by chatterlaines

For Historybounding: I created one myself out of left over coutil ( as base layer with 2 fashion layers for a 2in1 effect) from a corset project and coupled it with corset making techniques like front boning and lacing at the back. The lacing works great as a multisizer for any layers below. As a beginner sewist I can confirm the 2 h sewing time. of course, my deviation is neither accurate nor couture (I didn't know anything about basting)

I teach fourth and fifth graders about Nannie Helen Burroughs and read her speeches so that we have first hand knowledge of what Black women of the period felt about the suffragette movement and its leaders. No need to no need to argue about what's true or not when you can find fact. Thank you for this video because I am actually making a belt for my Mary Church Terrell dress another Black Suffragette I teach ❤️

Hello, if you're making this to wear over outfits that don't have any boning, does the belt need boning or would interfacing work? I'm planning on making some of these for classic lolita and I don't really wear corsets (though some of my dresses would look better with boning in the bodice!)

Hi, I don't think boning is necessary. The shaping of this belt is such that it lays on top of an outfit but doesn't/shouldn't take any strain.
