Making a custom knife for an Infantryman
Check out my website for more info: goughcustom.com/
This knife was made for an Infantryman that wanted a supremely tough knife to use for all his daily tasks. I really enjoyed the process of working with him to put together the knife, and wanted to document the process of making it!
Specs:
Model name: Resolute
Blade: 5/32" O1 Tool steel @ ~61 HRC, Acid Etched
Handle: Coyote Brown G10
Sheath: Coyote Brown Kydex
Overall length: 8 3/4"
Total time taken for the knife: 16 hours
Hand-made in my workshop in Toronto, Canada. Hope you enjoy the video!

Isn't it nice to see a fantastic blade created with simple tools? I'm glad he now has all the fancy toys to make his life easier, but there's something satisfying about seeing that quality come from hand tools.
this a great video - it really goes into the work involved in making a good full tang blade. 100% total respect for doing this the old way. your a skilled man for sure thanks very much for sharing

Damn good job. Nice to see you use manual tool, instead of a angle grinder. I only use file and stone for stock removal, but electric drill. Keep up posting. Best regards from Denmark. Bo Adamsen
Quite possibly the best knife making tutorial I've seen yet. And all with basic tools! Very impressive.
You are a true craftsman. I could see you becoming one of the top knife manufacturers with your own company. Anyone would be proud to own one or more of you knives.

Wow you have a great skill and eye for detail. Totally engrossed from start to finish and parts took me back down memory lane to the mid 80's when i used some of those techniques in your video in class in Metalwork. Fantastic video, subscribed and thanks for taking time and sharing, UK.

In the Antarctic knife video you used all of the high end specialized equipment that everyone would like to have but many of us just can't justify. In this one you are making an equally cool knife, but with much more common general purpose shop tools. In the time lapsed one - only hand tools. Outstanding. You prove that this art can be produced by anyone who really wants to - and also show how the professional or more involved hobbyist can be more productive. Great work.

Thanks mate! Yeah the shop has definitely expanded a lot! The next step is to separate production from the prototyping side so I can do both at once, rather than only one or the other, the current setup has made it hard to experiment over the last few years and I'm working on fixing that!
Thats a beautiful knife.
I never leave comments on videos that I watch, but I just have to on this one. I love the knife, very nice job.

+unTamed Well truth be told it's really not easier, right now it actually takes me a little longer to make the knives the new way than it used to by hand! I've had to raise my prices just a little to cover all my costs... Hopefully things will get faster in the future though.

Aron, great video/knife! I'm thinking about etching my next blade with Ferric Chloride. I really liked the color and consistency of the patina on your blade. I was wondering if you could share with me the finishing you used before etching (grit and sanding pattern) and also the etching process (sololution concentration, cycles, temperature)? It would really suck to waist a finished knife by etching it the wrong way! Ahhahah Thanks again for the awesome video!

BeAutiful knife! (The 'b' and 'a' were capitalized on purpose-I'm sure you will figure out why- :D ) The ONLY thing I would have changed would have been the handle color, otherwise I loved the design. You definitely dedicate a lot of time to perfect your finshed product. I'd defnitely buy it! It was scary sharp too! Keep up the awesome work! Just subbed! :D

hand saw reduces friction heating so your blade material dosnt weaken from cutting due to the grain structure becoming more unstable, plus there a certain satisfaction from making things without power tools
@thedood7930

metal bandsaw moves very slow... if I am cutting anything less than 3/16 I can hold it in my hand after cutting with it only just being warm. It still has to go through he treat anyway.. you can normalize it if you think you may have damaged it so.. it really doesn't matter. All my knives have good edges. Metal cutting bandsaws are nice... he probably just does not have one. They are expensive.
