Making a Cherry Trestle Table
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This was a pretty fun build. The table top is 6' x 3' and should seat 6 people comfortably with room for a few more if need be. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below. Thanks for watching!

THANK YOU FOR USING DOWELS!! It's nice to see some people can afford a $1K+ Domino tool, but I for one cannot!!
"Incase I want to take it on vacation with me", that was hilarious. Excellent job on the build and video

Great job! I love the contrast of the rounded over sides vs. the square ends. Keep 'em coming!

Amazing! .. I like to take my table on holiday too!
I really like how you connected up the through tenon/cross beam. I have never seen it done that way. Looks great!
The curl really popped when you put the waterlox on. Really like the design. The subtle contrast of wood with the wedges.👍👍
Beautiful table! I especially love the legos, you know, for scale!
Perfect timing since I’m going to be building a trestle table myself. I’m picking up the wood today which is black cherry. Thanks for the additional inspiration.

Nice trestle table! Thanks for sharing the video with us.😎👍JP
Good video and nice table. I was happy to see you not use breadboard ends. I understand the reasons for a breadboard ends but I happen to like the look of end grain...seems cleaner/less busy to me. To each his own however. Thanks.
VERY NICE build John! So clean and detailed. GREAT JOB!!!! 👍👍

Nice job guy! Very beautifull table!
Te quedó una mesa preciosa,lo haces de forma que parece tan fácil,sencillamente genial,un saludo desde Galicia ESPAÑA
Love me some cherry! That’s a lot of dowels and hole drilling! Nice table design. I built a trestle table for a customer and assembled it right in her kitchen. She loved seeing go together, especially when I knocked the wedged tenons in. Look forward to seeing vacation pictures with you and the table traveling together :)

Thanks Tom! Cherry is really nice to work with. I’m working with some white oak right now and it’s much tougher to deal with. Stay tuned for vacation pics :)
Handsome guys build beautiful things with their hands, i really love it. I love working with wood but i am not a professional.
Beautiful table. Excellent job.

I see it is Lego approved. BEAUTIFUL!
I don't know that I'd take the table with me on vacation -- I figure the table would just want some time apart. It can choose where it wants to go on vacation. Beautiful table and very well done. Thanks for the video.

parillaworks apparently the newest trend is to dye epoxy blue and have it run through the middle of the table. If I see one KZread video where someone does it I'm going to scream 😀

Awesome build ! Like i've said in the past I always enjoy your videos - I only wish that you'd go into higher detail with stuff for guys like me who are bit of beginners wanting to get to a higher level. Such as planning, joinery layout, and other more in depth techniques. Thanks !

Thanks Alec! I understand where you're coming from. It's a tough thing to balance. Maybe I can focus on one main thing per build and go a little deeper into it. For example, this table could've been designing the tapers or laying out the dowels. Thanks for the input Alec :)

Yes - I understand each video cant be 6 hours long with every little detail - But that's a great idea , touching deeper into one more in depth technique would be a good idea. Thanks for putting out the great content.
That thumbs up at 08:54 was epic!
I am very curious about cherry work. When I cut the cherry table plate by track saw, the blade (blue Bosch) sounded very unpleasant. But the cut was clean.
Awesome job there John!👍🏻 Any plans for this table? I’m thinking about one like this only longer! Oh... what blade you using on your table saw? Thanks for sharing!
@parillaworks
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bill! I might post the CAD file I used to design it. If you want it, shoot me an email. I primarily use two blades: a 24 tooth Diablo rip blade and a 60 tooth Diablo crosscut blade. Both are thin kerf. They work well enough, I haven’t invested in expensive blades yet. These are readily available in stores and decently cheap so that’s what I go with for now.
Besides the steel wool on the top of the table, did you do any work between coats on the other pieces? I like the double wedge! I have a trestle table design that i'm still tweaking and was anxious about getting the angle correct on the mortise of the stretcher for a single wedge. But, with a double wedge, i can just make a straight-through tenon. Thanks!

Hey Brian. I hit some of the parts with 320 if they needed it. The reason you mentioned is exactly why I did the double wedge :) Good luck with your table!
Cool build! Im a bit of a newbie and was curious about where do you learned the wood working terminology? The vacation line had me in bits

Really cool design, I love Cherry! What model of Dewalt Planer do you use? And do you run into the knife problem (steel dulling too quickly) I have been reading about online?
@parillaworks
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Christian! The cherry was nice to work with compared to the hard white oak I'm working with on my current project. Its the Dewalt 735. I picked it up on craigslist 2 years ago. Over those 2 years I've probably gone through 2 or 3 sets of knives, and they're double sided. I find what usually does them in is resinous woods like pine; they really gunk up the blades and make it a pain to clean. There's a trade off with these knives; because they're keyed and easy to install, you can't really sharpen them. Take the good with the bad I guess. Overall, I'm pleased.
Really like the design. Where’d you get that apron?
@parillaworks
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bernie. It’s from Amazon and made by readywares. Pretty good quality, though I’ve been wearing it less now that the Florida heat is starting to kick my butt.
I’m trying to understand a bit more about making tabletops and desktops by edge joining boards etc. How will this table stand up over time without breadboard ends? I don’t know if those are even necessary, just trying to learn before I tackle a larger top for a desk.
@parillaworks
6 жыл бұрын
I think the table will remain flat without breadboards because it’s if it’s thickness. If this too was 1” or less, I would be a less confident in it staying flat. Outside of keeping a label flat, they’re also an aesthetic choice and I didn’t like that look for this build.

hmmm, somthing wrong with first comment. What about stability and usefull tabletop after 3 years?
@parillaworks
3 жыл бұрын
The table is doing pretty well. It sits on some uneven tile which causes it to rock a bit so I might throw some felt pads under it to stabilize things. But overall it’s doing great. I need to refinish it because my 3 year old has given her end of the table a beating. Though that’s to be expected haha.
@lifewithfavor
Ugh, that creeps me out watching you cut those pieces on the saw without a push stick (starting at 00:00:53). I've done that too when I was younger, but wouldn't dream of it now.

I wouldn't feel a need for a push stick on a piece that wide.
