At 13, you probably can't believe that we didn't have cell phones, or the internet when we were 13, but I did connect my house phone to a "modem" to reach a local "bulletin board system" (BBS) through which I was able to talk to other (nerdy) kids and made some new friends. It was the coolest thing ever back then. I mean, just watching someone type a message, letter by letter appearing on the screen, as you conversed with them seemed like magic... You can't get that level of real-time with messages even today!
