Here's a couple of tips. When your painting blades, use a heat gun and hold the blade with needle nose at the attachment hole and only hold it above the heat gun only 1 second per side. You just want the blade to be barely hot.....just enough a light coat of paint will stick to the blade. It will have a Matt finish before you bake but will smooth out in the oven with no dripping. When I use the holographic stickers on the chatterbait blades or on the body of blade baits (like the silver buddy), I dip them in a cheap automotive one part clear. It will seal the sticker to the metal. You can get a quart of the dupli color clear at most automotive stores. A quart will do thousands of baits. I sell several hundred of the silver buddy knock offs (Do-It mold) to a local bait store every winter. No one has ever complained about the sticker coming off.

Good looking chatter donkey. I need that in a bit smaller presentation most days . Don’t get out in deeper water as much as I’d like. But I’d say a 3 inch version would slam on the river no problem. It that this size wouldn’t slam as well.

What would you suggest a noobie to buy to get started? If you've already answered this, please guide me to find your response. Thanks!
@SDGCustomLurecraft
11 ай бұрын
Welcome to the community! Where to get started depends on lot on what you want to build and how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go! Lead molds, lead pots, hook options, powder paints, vise to tie vs rubber bands, skirt material options... then there's the soft plastic side with molds, microwaves, pigments, flakes - its a crazy world to jump into but a very rewarding one!
Love the color shift stuff and the addition of the comedy channel. Great job as always and by the way if you were down here in my neck of the that bump on the yak could be an alligator.

Absolutely!
I see a problem with the hook angle on this lure, it could possibly be the reason for a few missed fish. Of course the ones that engulf it will get the hook and stay pinned but I would tend to think more of a standard round bend would have a better hookup. My humble opinion. That aside this was a fun one, thanks for sharing this lure build!
@SDGCustomLurecraft
10 ай бұрын
Appreciate the feedback, thanks! Funny you mention the hook angle, just last night I was fishing this bait again (different location) and flexed it back just enough to make the point parallel to the body... not enough to compromise the hook just less of an angle. It was a pitching jig bite last night so I didn't fish the bait as much to test it, but I liked the look better and its sure to improve the hookup ratio! (BTW, I like the ewg style when using this trailer due to its taller profile - a more classic round bend doesn't provide as much bite). Thanks again for the comments and for watching!
Adam, you have become a master!

great job must be a ton of fun to play with all those cool tools. that was one of the best shads for color I've seen and you're like 3 drops oh maybe 2 and a bit of flake and just nail it. do you reuse what's left over and go darker or is the gel super cheap?

Thanks man, truly appreciated and glad you enjoyed the ride! Yeah, the leftover plastisol can be remelted to make more baits. I try to use it all… sometimes I combine with other colors, or even throw a bunch of similar stuff together to make something new. You are correct - TONS of fun!

Do you have a step by step video on how to tie jigs?
@SDGCustomLurecraft
Ай бұрын
Hey Michael, I’ve tied a number of jigs on the channel over the years - a lot of those older videos are likely unlisted now. That said, I know I tied in this video - you’d use the same techniques for any jig with a silicon skirt. Making a Bladed Jig Inspired by My New Custom Rod! (Shop To Water & Rod Review) kzread.info/dash/bejne/aa5sw5WlpbLdibg.html
So new to bait making and was wondering on a laminate could you do floating blend on top and sinking blend bottom and what would be outcome
@SDGCustomLurecraft
11 ай бұрын
Interesting question. You could try, but you'd need to experiment with temperature. Reason being, the durometer is very different between the two (sinking being thicker most likely) so they won't flow into the mold at the same rate. To even them out you'd likely need to shoot the floating blend cooler (to "thicken" it) than the sinking. That's all a guess though!

@SDGCustomLurecraft
11 ай бұрын
Oh man, that’s a great question. I’m so new to the stuff I honestly don’t know. The sampler pack I bought varies… 5g on the less expensive stuff and 1g of the pricy. If I can remember, I’ll take a 5g and see how many 1/8tsps I get. Thus far that’s produced some saturated baits, so you could get 2x that at 1/16tsp for less saturation. Do my best to figure that out soon!
