Making a Black Leather Bifold Wallet
Making a black leather bifold wallet is a bit more complicated leather crafting project, but if you've mastered card wallets it's not that big of a jump! We made this black leather bifold wallet with some natural vegetable tanned leather that we used Fiebing's Black oil dye on, then we packed it with oil and wax. We used our 9 pocket bifold wallet pattern as a guide to make this bifold leather wallet by hand. We used polyester threads to saddle stitch this bifold wallet in a matchin gblack color, and dyed the edges of the leather wallet black as well before burnishing.
While we don't usually make all black leather wallets, this was a fun project and the resulting bifold wallet is made by hand to be very sleek, and guaranteed to age beautifully! This is a really fun DIY project, and these handmade bifold wallets make great gifts. As always thanks to Weaver Leather for sponsoring this video - happy hand crafting!

This person has the most non-intrusive and effective advertising their sponsors. By making it look easy enough that we can do it at home! And then providing resources to do it!
I love how the first thing we noticed was the supreme cup
Alright, black is the new black ^^ A robust-looking wallet, bet the customer had/will have plenty of joy looking at it for the first time. Cheers!
So we're going to sit here and pretend that this supreme glass is not there?

also how long did it take you to make?
So incredibly beautiful. I am in awe.
Thank you for all that you do.
Oh yeah! Weaver only carries the oil based Pro dye. That's all I use too, color fast and has the ability to thin out with rubbing alcohol. Great wallet.
Nice, I use gum tragcanth as well! Like any good leather product (wallets especially) it will take some time to get broken in. Perfect fit once it does. Cheers!
Just purchased this pattern, excited to make my first wallet!
You inspire me. I'm 65, retired and somewhat "crafty". Bought some cheapy tools and leather and trying something simple. By the way, I th out that was a tat on your right index finger but I guess it washed off. I want measurement marks tatooed on my index finger. "Bucket list".

Robert Guyn I don’t mean to answer for them but there is a Mr. And Mrs?/Ms Corter LOL The gal does a lot of the sewing. Hope that clears that up. They’re both crazy talented. ( God, I hope they’re not like brother and sister and I just grossed them out 🥴🤔😝)

We're more brother and sister than mr/mrs haha! Not romantically involved, her kids call me uncle Eric and her partner's one of my good buddies. But no worries! Kayleena makes most of our production work from start to finish, she's also a better filmer than I am so my hands are usually in front of the camera. I'm almost 6.5 feet tall and my hands are too big to see the piece while I'm sewing most of the time, so it's an aesthetic choice to have her sew on film because you can see more of the piece and it looks way less awkward :)

so awesome, I'm sure you'll love the craft! We're two people, Kayleena has a very faded needle tattoo on one finger so if you see that, it's her. If you see no hand tattoo, it's me (Eric!) measurement markings would be a very, very useful tattoo!!!

Corter Leather ooohhh... 🥴 totally messed that one up. Let me take this foot out of my mouth and say thank you for clearing that up. Holy smokes you’re tall!! Good choice on having Kayleena (beautiful name) do the “delicate” stuff. Whatever your relationship, y’all make amazing videos and are crazy talented. Just went and bought this pattern as well as the optical illusion card holder. Thank you again for everything!!

Beautiful work!
Did you seal the leather after dyeing or just apply mink oil right after it dries?
I love the end "glamour pose" like a model on a bed...
Just incredible, beautyful.
Just fantastic thank you! I had a co-worker bring me their most loved wallet they bought overseas while in the military 15+ years ago. They used it until is had literally fallen apart, and asked if I could recreate it. I've made holsters, purses, notebook covers, etc. However, this is my first try at something delicate like a wallet. I took their old wallet apart but found it's mostly flimsy nylon and scratched my head on how to remake it. Your videos have been so helpful, and with the provided designs/walkthrough I'm confident I can recreate it except 100% better being all leather now! Thank you for sharing to help out those like me who are just learning!
Thank-you for this video. I study all your videos and learn something new EVERY time! Someone else commented on this but if you could lend an ear: I dyed some 4-6 oz veg tan leather with the same dye you used, both sides. It took well, but how do you keep the dye from staining? I used neatsfoot oil after it dried.

Hypebeast spotted, Nice work mate!
How do you usually finish the rough out side so it doesn't stain papers and stuff one may put in the slots?
Aside from the oil dye, what’s that clear liquid you used? Can i use that on my old leather jacket?
This is probably the most simple way of making a leather wallet on KZread so far job well done!!!! 😲🤔Price for the wallets worth every penny!!! 👍Congratulations you got a new subscriber (and soon new customer!!) 😀
What size edge beveler did you use? Also what size thread would you recommend using? Great video can’t wait to make it
You have such a steady hand. 🙂 do you sell your wallets when you are done mate ?
Very Gold, Congratulations
Hi, what is the thickness of leather used here. Love the simplicity of your videos!
awesome! What type of leather you used for?
Nice job !
Love tour videos. What size kind and size of thread do you use for your wallets?
Masterpiece
Wow! It’s like the perfect wallet. Lots of pockets and places to stuff receipts and things. Very Nice y’all!!
Great video, thank you.
i love leather goods . love the patina
I noticed you don’t wet the leather before dying? I’m still confused on that technique. Is it recommended to dye the leather dry?
Good work !
What do you apply to condition/soften the leather towards the end?
What grit sand paper do you use when sanding edges?
what is the treatment you are doing on the edges with the white stuff? never seen it and can't really understand why. :) like the little dupreme glass
Can you recommend anybody for a to make a maker stamp. I understand they can be made of some kind of plastics so there are much cheaper until I can finally decide on the final design?
Muy bien excelente trabajo, pero estaría bien si explicaras pasos y que materiales estas ocupando, gracias y saludos

When you’re doing a colored leather do you always dye the leather, or do you buy colored leather already, or is it just the black you dye?

Not sure if I would get a response since this is an old video. But the oil you applied after the dye. Is that mink oil and/or aussie leather conditioner? I have the issue where my dye rubs off onto my fingers, even days after application. Which is obviously not great for wallets :) is the mink oil/aussie leather conditioner what "seals" it? I used resolene for one project but It doesn't have a "premium" feeling finish to me, it seems much more utilitarian.
Nice work! Send materials (glue, oils and paints) to Portugal?
what thickness leather did you use, it wasn't in the supply list on weaver?
Did you apply the oil after the dye dried or while it was still wet?
Hi can we order customized wallets? I have a wallet i am using several years but its getting old but size is just perfect and maybe replacing by a good one!
You inspired me to start this as a hobby. What tools would you recommend for a beginner like me?

All you really need for leather specific tools to get started is a decent set of chisels, the rest you can get later! Cutting mat, #2 xacto, cork backed ruler, some thread and a couple needles and you're off to a good start :)

hello i am interested in purchasing one of your belts but my waist is 25 inches, will the smallest size (30) be too big for me? if so are you planning on making smaller sizes? thank you
Glass cup flex!
what program do you use for your design
Ok. I downloaded this pattern, ordered leather, made the wallet and it's still way thicker than this. It's 2-3oz. leather. Is it because I used an oil tanned? It's a lot softer than this. Are you using 1-2oz veg tanned?
