Making a Black Leather Bifold Wallet
Making a black leather bifold wallet is a bit more complicated leather crafting project, but if you've mastered card wallets it's not that big of a jump! We made this black leather bifold wallet with some natural vegetable tanned leather that we used Fiebing's Black oil dye on, then we packed it with oil and wax. We used our 9 pocket bifold wallet pattern as a guide to make this bifold leather wallet by hand. We used polyester threads to saddle stitch this bifold wallet in a matchin gblack color, and dyed the edges of the leather wallet black as well before burnishing.
While we don't usually make all black leather wallets, this was a fun project and the resulting bifold wallet is made by hand to be very sleek, and guaranteed to age beautifully! This is a really fun DIY project, and these handmade bifold wallets make great gifts. As always thanks to Weaver Leather for sponsoring this video - happy hand crafting!

    Just fantastic thank you! I had a co-worker bring me their most loved wallet they bought overseas while in the military 15+ years ago. They used it until is had literally fallen apart, and asked if I could recreate it. I've made holsters, purses, notebook covers, etc. However, this is my first try at something delicate like a wallet. I took their old wallet apart but found it's mostly flimsy nylon and scratched my head on how to remake it. Your videos have been so helpful, and with the provided designs/walkthrough I'm confident I can recreate it except 100% better being all leather now! Thank you for sharing to help out those like me who are just learning!

    You inspire me. I'm 65, retired and somewhat "crafty". Bought some cheapy tools and leather and trying something simple. By the way, I th out that was a tat on your right index finger but I guess it washed off. I want measurement marks tatooed on my index finger. "Bucket list".

    Robert Guyn I don’t mean to answer for them but there is a Mr. And Mrs?/Ms Corter LOL The gal does a lot of the sewing. Hope that clears that up. They’re both crazy talented. ( God, I hope they’re not like brother and sister and I just grossed them out 🥴🤔😝)

  • @Corter

    We're more brother and sister than mr/mrs haha! Not romantically involved, her kids call me uncle Eric and her partner's one of my good buddies. But no worries! Kayleena makes most of our production work from start to finish, she's also a better filmer than I am so my hands are usually in front of the camera. I'm almost 6.5 feet tall and my hands are too big to see the piece while I'm sewing most of the time, so it's an aesthetic choice to have her sew on film because you can see more of the piece and it looks way less awkward :)

  • @Corter

    @Corter

    so awesome, I'm sure you'll love the craft! We're two people, Kayleena has a very faded needle tattoo on one finger so if you see that, it's her. If you see no hand tattoo, it's me (Eric!) measurement markings would be a very, very useful tattoo!!!

    Not sure if I would get a response since this is an old video. But the oil you applied after the dye. Is that mink oil and/or aussie leather conditioner? I have the issue where my dye rubs off onto my fingers, even days after application. Which is obviously not great for wallets :) is the mink oil/aussie leather conditioner what "seals" it? I used resolene for one project but It doesn't have a "premium" feeling finish to me, it seems much more utilitarian.
