    Fun story: A lot of Gerwig's Little Women was filmed in my town of Harvard, MA because Louisa May Alcott spent part of her childhood at the Fruitlands Utopia community. So, for about a month, our tiny town center was transformed to look like the 1860s, and there were people just going about their filming days in giant 1860s hoop skirts! It was amazing! (oh and also my calculus teacher almost got arrested trying to get a picture of Meryl Streep)

    I agree!! It's been a LONG time since the Oscars were a venue that recognized talent. They give out Oscars to those they WANT to give Oscars to and not necessarily to those who deserve it. If they miss giving out an Oscar to some deserving actor one year because they''re giving out a 'gratuitous' Oscar for some political reason, they'll give it to him/her the next time regardless...or they may just ignore the person because they're spiteful. The movie industry is very childish - not child like, childish. Sad.

    The evening bodice with the short sleeves is so darling, I can't stop looking at it either. What a beautiful color too, it goes so well with your skin tone. The light blue color, the white details, I imagine the light in a ballroom would hit the shiny trims and make you sparkle like water droplets that get hit by the sun - so stunning :) Just a little heads up: In your description, the link to your sewing book recommendations is underneath the "What scissors do you use?" question, instead of under the sewing books question. Not a big mistake but I was confused there for a second :'D

    The costuming is actually awful. You can’t tell when it takes place. Many dress choices for locations do not make sense. They are a poor family why do they have so many extravagant dresses rather than just a few pieces styled differently together. Even if one would try to excuse it as stylistic choice you can still be accurate to the mindset of the period without being historical accurate. It was trust disappointing

  • @dutchik5107

    @dutchik5107

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@fightmefairy yup. You can switch around dresses between sisters if all. Or even have like 2 tops per skirt (since obviously less fabric) If they were rich it would've made more sense to have a big closet. But really it's a peeve of mine with most movies. If it's over multiple weeks and they never wear the same thing. Like not really normal. Of course sometimes straying away from accuracy makes sense. Like if something is scandalous and its showing ankles or whatever, lifting that hem more because like people today don't even really notice ankles

  • @darrahjones-reddy6100

    Agreed, the movie wasn't one of aesthetical prowess for those with not even a keen eye. When I said disappointed I meant it with strong feeling as I didn't want to go on a rant about how awful my friends (and myself) felt after watching the movie. It was ruined for them because every time something meaningful happened, we were distracted by the idiocies throughout. However I wanted to put it a more delicate manner as you can understand.

    What a beautiful gown! I would love to have seen this in the film. It reminds me of a moment in the book where Amy in Paris is getting ready for a local party that Laurie is going escort her to. She had been given an old silk dress from her cousin Flo. Amy took inexpensive materials and succeeded in embellishing the dress and making it work for her. When Laurie arrived to take her to the party, Amy also succeeded in winning Laurie's admiration. It was perhaps the first time he realized what a lovely woman Amy had become.

    Marked and saved as a favorite video!!! Loved them both!!! Could not pick one over the other. Adored the bows, sparkles, fabric choices, laces and the fit of the gowns. The absolutely perfect way you taught the details of this dress while still be entertaining should win an award. The dress looked lovely on you! Blessing. May you be rewarded for every tiny hand stitch. Aaaahhhh she should be on a form in the middle of a very large Edwardian living room for everyone to enjoy... or better yet. You should wear the gown and arrive in a fine horse and carriagewoth 4 footmen to the Award show... win the award and take a carriage ride in the gown through New York Central Park... (After God has healed the city of course)where your fine young gentleman should get down on one knee under the biggest strongest Oak tree and propose marriage to you. That is what this dess needs... a marriage proposal. Praying the gentleman's attire is up to this standard. :) By the way. .... Did someone make her husband's outfit??? If not YOU should... after all he.chooses you...and properly so :)

    I used to make fashion dolls and dress them in period clothing that I made. All the way from underclothes to gowns and hats and parasols. I especially loved the gowns with bustles. I've never made them for adults. I admire your attention to detail and finishing work. Great job!!

    So, by minute 40 I’m standing in front of my TV with my mouth gaping open in dumbfounded awe...1) love the shout out to your mom 2) at “it’s what my dreams are made of: literally made me shed a tear...3) how did you not get blisters!? Oh my gosh well done. I used to noodle around with making period clothes from an 1800’s sewing book and 1920’s singer sewing machine and it was HARD...you are seriously talented...can’t wait to watch the movie.... and I hope one day you’ll have your own Academy Award...

    WOW! What a great dress, and what a great sponsorship! So many congratulations! Also I learned something new! I didn't know the dresses with interchangeable bodices were called transformation dresses - my first thought was that it was going to be one of those dresses that transform into a completely different dress, like the princess dresses Designer Daddy makes (as well as others.)

    I'll admit, I'm not thrilled about the addition of polyester trim and plastic sequins, but can't deny the end result is very very pretty! (And very very You!) I'd personally go for a more toned down gown, even for the evening version. But this isn't about me, it's about two ladies who love sparkles: Angela and Amy!

    Hi Angela, I just want to say thank you. I found your channel by accident and it was the best I've done for myself in a while. You have single handedly inspired me to get back into sewing vintage clothes. I used to be very skinny in high school, like 28 inch waist with average b cups. Fast forward 8 years and 50 pounds later, nothing I loved to wear or made myself fit me or even came close bc of weight in my stomach and my chest exploding into double d cups. So I've spent all of my professional career years just wearing whatever I could find that would fit me only to find i gree out of it a couple months later due to depression related eating habits. I had no hobbies I enjoyed anymore bc I just didn't see the point. This caused my professional career to suffer as well bc I just couldn't make myself care about anything bc I didn't really care about myself. I recently bought a dress that was too small on me but I just had to have it bc I thought I'd lose the weight to fit. Surprise, I didn't lose any. So I looked up videos a few weeks ago to refresh my mind on sewing and enlarging garments. This is how I found you and your videos. I can't stop watching, you are so inspiring to me! I was able to alter my dress and now I'm going through all my old vintage clothes and I am going to try to alter as many as I can so I can enjoy wearing clothes again. Thank you so much for just doing what you do, you've given me my hobbie back and part of myself back. Thank you

    The amount of detail you put into the dress, how educated yet easy to understand you explain the process and talk about the period the dress is meant to represent. It left me speechless and listening to you calms me down as well. Very thankful for this video this morning, wasn't a good night.

    My favourite is the evening gown, too - though the daytime bodice is also to die for - but those tiny little darling sleeves in the evening bodice were just lovely and I adore them so much - the whole project is exquisite - and you look utterly gorgeous in it - the colour does absolutely amazing things for you - I'm so impressed by this whole thing. You're a magician of fabric!

    Over 50 years ago, I read "Little Women" under the covers with a flashlight (I was SUPPOSED to be sleeping), because I couldn't put the book down. Thank you for actualizing my vision of Amy March! Jo was my favorite, because our personalities were similar. I could see her climbing trees in a petticoat, much the same way I did in dresses with frilly slips underneath.
