Making a 100kg Steel Anvil - The cope and closing using K-CAST Sand

#metalcasting #kcast #metallurgy #anvil #foundry
Welcome back to the second in a 4 video series on how make an anvil from steel.
In episode 1 we looked at the drag and cores. In this episode we finish the mould with the cope, gluing of cores and sealing of the mould ready for pouring. This flask less sand mix allows us to create once off stand alone moulds from integrated flask and pattern combination boxes like you see in the video. The fine sand combined with the sealant paint create beautiful finishes.
Rob and Jamie assemble the mould and seal it once complete. We really appreciate you watching and hope you enjoy the content. Please find us on social media and share our videos and posts around. We are brand new and need your help to spread the word.
Thanks for watching

    Thanks for sharing, very cool! One suggestion I have is reducing your music track volume by about -10 Db because it's hard to hear you without music blasting too lol.

    Interesting video, but I agree with other commenters that you could definitely benefit from toning down the music. Better to have voiceovers on how/why things are done the way they are. Also, consider getting a lav/lapel mic to get better audio from your subjects and use the camera mic just for background/backup audio. Great content though. Love to see hand-crafted goods made by a clearly skilled maker.

    Great videos guys. I’m a blacksmith so love the anvil casting. I’m also right next door to a bronze foundry in Sarasota Florida. I’ve tried my hand at mixing my own sand and casting art pieces in aluminum and in bronze with some success. I’m very interested in a finer surface finish, So any details on the type of sand, the paint and the glue much appreciated. Amazing work guys !

    Thank you! So happy you're liking them. The sand is a mix we use. We're not sure how many foundries use it too but we haven't seen the hobbyist or home caster using it yet. We're setting up a website for it at the moment, it will be available soon

  • @hemidart7

    @hemidart7

    2 жыл бұрын

    The paint is not actual paint its called wash and it made of Zircon flower alcohol and some binding agent the reason for burn off is so the wash can adhere to the surface properly Sand binder is the is the main base to the chemical part of two which a catalyst is needed to harden it the ratio will give you a different strength too much and you get to much gas off to little and it breaks down before proper solidification of the casting

    you should be packing that sand harder than that if you don't use a bumper or squeeze machine or even a vibrate table you should be packing that by hand hard or at least a air powered hand jack hammer also I can see the parting line on the core at 6:30 that should be cleaned off

    Jesus christ dude!.... its not a fucking funnel its a pouring cup..... and since this guy doesn't explain things properly the thermal sleeve thats in the cope is for one, not enough riser but anyway it made out of several material some being wood pulp like cardboard and such but it also has small shavings of Aluminum its job is to keep the hot metal insulated and molten the longest so it the last part to solidify it needs to feed the casting and what they have there is no suffice for the needs of that casting

  • @hemidart7
    @hemidart72 жыл бұрын

    You don't have a riser well or enough riser to feed that casting and no core vents HELLO POROSITY! yr just gonna dump the metal right on the surface of the drag right where the emblem of the casting is no well and gateAND STOP CALLING IT PAINT ITS WASH
