MAKE YOUR USB WHEEL WIRELESS! - Asetek Simsports Quick Release Adapter Review

Ойындар

If you've seen our reviews of the Asetek Simsports Invicta, Forte and La Prima wheel bases, you'd know we were very impressed with them. But there was one major drawback, they only worked with their own very limited selection of sim racing wheels.
Asetek Simsports promised all along that they would create an open ecosystem that allows you to use just about any USB wheel and connect it directly to the QR, meaning no need for a separate cable back to your rig or PC.
Today that solution is here, so let's take a look!

Wow, Kudos to Asetek, they came in late, but are going very strong. Not only they convinced you with the Forté and Invicta wheel bases but also on their smallest option. Where most brands cut down quality for costs Asetek stood on the quality and cut down "luxury" options only. And now they come up with that open approach. Wow. I can see them gaining very good part of the market share from Fanatec and others in the future.

This is absolutely fantastic, don't understand the complaints about more options and price. Guys when you buy this its end game now, wont need another wheelbase for years to come and the transparency, care and quality the company has is beyond what any other can offer at the moment. Best wheelbase, best support from a company that's been around far longer than any other of the new comers and they are coming hard with products that address the needs of the community by listening to the community. Its tough to bite the bullet and change things from your original vision to suit the needs of your customers and I think they are doing a fantastic job at that. Not to mention not compromising on quality and the upgradeability. They have taken their time and delivered every single time. Will def be buying into the ecosystem now

This is really cool. The only thing that was holding me back from Asetek's offering was the lack of wheels, but now I can just buy the standalone wheelbase, the adapter and any USB wheel I want from a 3rd party.

Pretty cool system. I've stuck with my DD1 just because the firmware is pretty much in a pristine state at this point in time. I've tried other wheelbases and I don't think they are worth switching to unless the DD1 shits the bed. I have a GSI Hyper P1 on my DD1 utilizing a 3rd party emulator which works surprisingly well. Looking at this bit of kit in the video I would be inclined to go with that company's wheelbase if the GSI wheels do indeed not run into any power or data throughput issues. My Hyper P1 essentially needs its own USB controller and a very specific USB extension cable for it to work flawlessly.

Great idea and as wheels like the Bavarian Simtec Omega Pro are doing. They are implementing the QR and wheel together for a seemless connection and no wires. Attaching your wheel to the QR is a cool work around but still requires removing one and Attaching and wrapping around a cord. Better than connecting to pc if your hub or pc is far away but for me, wouldn't be a benefit. The integration angle will be the best bet and love to see other manufacturers implement foe the future.

Nice. When I buy the Prima, I will use their wheel for GT3, F1 and LMP cars. Then buy a seperate quick release adapter and buy a round rim from Fanatec. Buy a thin metal sheet and a USB game pad. Take apart the game pad and take out the PCB and screw it on the metal sheet. Find some buttons such as arcade fighting game buttons (for example Sanwa) and screw it into the metal sheet and wire it to the game pad PCB. Stick that metal sheet in the middle of the empty Fanatec rim, that is now your button plate. Attach the modified round wheel onto the quick release and you're ready for either Rallying or drifting! I'm doing to this to avoid buying round rims with paddle shifters. Buttons will serve as brake balance, turbo pressure increase/decrease and pit stop menus.

Just pointing this out. Not a dig at Asetek, Sim Racing Machines, Boosted Media or Fanatec, this is just an observation. I have 2 Fanatec Steering wheels, the Mclaren V2 and the WRC. The price to convert both to compatibility with Asetek will roughly be $600.00US. That is before taxes and shipping. SRM makes the fantastic Plug & Play Conversion kit 6.2X for about $150USD, and the Asetek Invicta QR Adapter is another $150USD. Just to convert 1 wheel is $300... Looks like it would be better to walk away from Fanatec all together when I make the switch to a La Prima bundle. "Fire sale" the CSLDD, pedals and wheels to fund a Turn Racing & Motamec steering wheel build, sounds like a better deal. I could probably cover Turn's button box and Asetek's QR from selling my current setup. The biggest positives? I don't have to worry about running Fanatec's software at all, Turn's quality is better than most of Fanatec's lineup. The negatives? Motamec might be difficult to get and I just might go with a different lower cost steering wheel. Something different though. Is it possible to convert a Fanatec wheelbase to use Asetek's Quick release? That would solve 200% of Fanatec's QR problems, especially seeing that Fanatec is even having extreme difficulty releasing updates about their QR2, let alone the actual product. Someone should make a conversion kit.

I think this is an area I wish Simucube was better at. The accessory port while not the most complex thing to create a connector and wire up a cable to a USB wheel, most users won't be doing it. Asetek made a good decision for the consumer to be able to use any USB wheel. It comes at a cost at $149, but it's practically hassle free. I would trade my SC2 Sport for one of these bases just for it's flexibility with 3rd party wheels.

Hm. Is it only me, who is A-OK with SC2 Wireless 2, williams f1/mercedes gt3 style wheel and screen on dash? That said I am all up for choice, so big ups Asetek.

So you still have to have a wire wrapped around the wheel no matter what? I’m still confused on how it’ll work

The usb cable is connected to the quick release on the wheel side, so you can use the quick release nornally. On other wheelbases you need to plug it into your pc

I have a Grid MPX wheel that needs a hub with USB and power connection... Is the MPX compatible with Asetek QR only with the USB?!

Unfortunately not as it needs that external power connection.

So anything with a power injector box will not work with the Asetek Invicta? I.e. the LM-X and the Grid Engineering Porsche 911 RSR? Or do you mean you just won't be able to use the built in USB connector in the QR?@@boostedmedia

Correct. Anything that needs a power injector will likely still require it. In the case of GRID, their wheels run off 12V and USB is 5V.

Thanks! But would you be able to run Wheel USB->Power Injector->Invicta Wheelbase/QR (i.e. it would be a wired wheel) or would it just not work at all@@boostedmedia

It will work if you still have the power injector plugged in. But then the injector would be spinning with the wheel. So it’s not practical

Asetek are certainly shilling their product to most KZreadrs now? pretty expensive for what it is, personally don’t have any problem with my cable and far cheaper. But each to their own.

It does what it does. If the cable doesn’t bother you that’s great as it opens up more affordable options! There’s a lot of content around Asetek right now simply because they’ve just released new products.
