Watching you tinker with your shop lathe and machines brings me back to High School as they were the machines I used when in Brooklyn Technical High School. They were great times and I am always fascinated by what a man and a lathe can do. Great Video. I will give you a 98% for your ingenuity.

I followed all three videos, nice work, doing the best with what you've got/can source. We all make mistakes, great you can admit to yours, might make others think twice before making the same. Thanks for your efforts.

I'm surprised you didn't source that splined shaft from a wrecking yard. The outer CV joint housing would make a great axle for the drive unit.

I definitely considered it, and I still think it would have been the better route. But it was the middle of winter when I did this, and at the time I just couldn't overcome the idea of driving all the way to a pick and pull, wandering around in crap weather to find a donor, and pulling the part when I could just click a button. If I'm honest, age and the internet have made me soft.

How did you mount the engine? Do you have a video showing an engine mounted to it?

@@YoshimoshiGarage , I would have hit the junkyard, but I don't have your skill of fabrication.

If I'm honest, I was too lazy. The nearest yard isn't that close, and I didn't feel like doing a pull. Of course a week after I finished this, a friend replaced his hubs and CV axles on a Cherokee, so it would have been a great donor.
