Returned my Kobalt electric mower back to Lowe’s after realizing it wasn’t powerful enough to mow through our newly renovated yard after an awesome growing season. I personally drive a Honda Accord Hybrid and absolutely love the car and remember cutting grass in my teens with a Honda motor. Just bought this model from Lowe's - great price, especially with vet discount - plus free delivery. Started on first pull. Only some initial tests and a couple strips on the lawn. Maybe 60 feet total. Very impressed with mulching and it seems to handle taller grass OK without bogging down. Replaced a 15 year old Craftsman that was made for them by Husqvarna with B&S engine. Could have kept it running but major parts were starting to wear out - drive system - wheels/axles - and deck mulch shrouds starting to crack underneath. I have new carb for it and will put that on and keep it for a while. Primer system was always finicky on its B&S.

JB, I have a Honda HRX 217 for several years. It does a great job at mulching and bagging. I had Toro Super Recycler for years until it wore out. The Honda had a bigger engine and better warranty. Got an extra year warranty with a promotion deal for 6 years! Always clean cut and when the neighbors ask you “ What kind of mower you got” I figured it’s doing a great job!

no transmission issues on a Honda lawn mower, but with an Odyssey, you replace a transmission every other 3 years. just bought one today. will be watching your videos for that setup on the first run. thank you for sharing.

I wouldn’t want to be messing with a pretty mower that looks this good. 🥰lol anyways nice video. Got the same one and it’s great! Had it for a year and a half and no issues, well one just recently I was taking the rear wheel off to clean the wheel cover and I accidentally flipped the gear the opposite direction, so I flipped it the other way and it seems to be working just fine now. It’s my daily driver lol 😆

I have a Honda after having owned many other brands in the last 35 years the Honda is by far and away the best I’ve ever owned. First pull start every time and super easy to walk behind. It pulls and I guide with one hand. I use the double mulching blades which vaporize the clippings.

I bought my lawnmower 18 years ago from Sears Craftsman with a Honda engine. Only issue with it would be replacing a throttle cable and the rear wheals self propelled front wheels are still good and the only down side is it has no oil drain plug. I need to run the gas empty and take the oil dipstick out and dump it on it’s side to drain the oil. But hey I’m going on 19 years

Have you tried leaving the mulch selector in between settings and what the result was? What's the real life long term user review of the Honda HRN /Hrx compared to the Toro super recycler for reliability, dependability, repairs / maintenance costs and enjoyment for larger yards? I just moved into a new home on a 1/3 acre lot

On the HRN the selector only has two places to go and won’t stay in the middle like it would on the HRX. It has to lock in place. If you take a look at this video you’ll see how the HRN Looks after 4 years of use. Still mowing great. Great review! I have HRX217 with the bigger gvc200 engine. Have had it about 10 years and still cutting. Definitely THE best mulching mower I’ve ever had. I only bag if grass got way tall or sucking leaves. Makes the lawn lawn look it’s best.

THis mower went up to 550 now. The recycler is still at 500 like it was for years. And although that engine is promising this mower isn't nearly the bargain it used to be.

All of the HRX models are belt drive except for the HYA and its electric start variant which are hydrostatic. What is your opinion on the hydrostatic (problems , pluses ,minuses ,etc) .

I had a Honda HRM215 with the 140cc GX motor. Great mower they lasted me 18 years. My transmission went out at about year 10 and my coil went out at year 16. It finally blew a seal. I got a commercial HRC and like it but it’s really heavy.

What type of fuel do you use in your Honda lawn mower? Do you use something like TruFuel, or do you use gasoline with a fuel stabilizer? What fuel do you recommend to maintain your lawn mower engine for future uses?

Hey Preston! I use ethanol free gas from the pump. There is a station near me that sells it. Great stuff! It’s about a dollar more than regular gas. You could buy 4 cycle trufuel but that will cost a pretty penny! Thanks for watching!

Just regular gas! If you can find ethanol-free gas that would be ideal but regular 87 octane is fine.

Do you use it in mulch mode? Mine mulches just fine with it!

Just bought the Honda HRN217VYA. Changed oil after 20 minutes. Tilted correctly. Caused vapor lock. Mower unusable after 2 hours out of box. Pull cord wouldn't pull unless I waited 15 minutes after turning off to empty bag.

I am shocked that this mower was way under $500 dollars! She’s a beaut’! I have a Husqvarna rear drive lawn mower with a Honda engine and it’s a great machine, but the height adjusters for the wheels are less than desirable.

I looked at a lot of mowers prior to purchasing this one Danny! For being under $500 at the time this mower was the best value. I’m really happy with the cut quality on this as well.
