Thats kinda why they don't need an active circut in their guitars. Bass players who play live sessions usually will require some form of active circut or preamp to get the best sound for both the audience and enough gain going into the monitor system for other musicians to hear them. For recording sessions and situations, a passive bass is preferred because the sound engineer controls the eq, gain structure, noise, etc.

11:24 That's Fender's "Stealth" A-string retainer, helps with the strings break angle over the nut. It's supposed to help alleviate nut buzz. Fender started putting them on their some American made models around 2013-2015(?) I think, not 100% though.

Yep. They work really well, they eliminate the weak A string sound obvious in some passive fenders. Kinda weird as they tend to only fit them to more expensive active instruments. Made a big difference to my P bass when I added one.

Fender needs to make this series in lefty...holy crap I need this. Also, active bass tone still sounds natural, unlike most (*coughEMGcough*) active guitar pickups. And active bass controls give you a lot more onboard EQ control that guitars really don't use. That and guitarists seem to be a lot more IT'S NOT LIKE HOW IT WAS IN 1962!!! than bassists.

Very nice lookin bass! I see your getting into the fenders pretty good now, very cool! That color is sweet! I love fender! I've been watching your channel now for a while and i think i may know a few guitars you might like to check out if you haven't already. Fender Stratocaster plus. Which is a pretty cool strat run that was big in the late 80's early 90's. American made and they came in some beautiful colors and configurations, Graffiti yellow being one that comes to mind. Lace sensor pickups and so on. Think you might like them and they sell pretty well too depending condition of course. The others you may like are Epiphone les paul Elite/Elitist!! Super nice limited edition Japan made versions! They came with the long neck tenon. Play, look and sound amazing! Fuji-gen factory versions are getting kinda hard to find and are selling for as much as an american made les paul standard these days! All quality pickups and hardwear. Lastly Epiphone Zack wylde les paul customs! Theres 3 i know about my fav being the buzz saw and they made two bullseye versions one was white and black with gold hardwear and the other more rare color is camo. The camo comes with a maple fretboard which is pretty cool to see on a les paul i think. Hope to maybe see one of these gems get your review! Thanks man either way! Rock on!

Actually -- a good number of bassists prefer traditional electronics unless it's a high-end boutique build with custom electronics. This bass is high on my list and I may get one in the near future. The only thing that worries me is trying to get replacement parts when Fender decides to move on.

That Texas Tea IS STUNNING!!! You're spot on, everything has been appointed to perfection. Recently learned with the Fender Molded Case with the TSA locks,... The divots on top near the four corners are for stacking your Fender Guitars. What I found out was they can be stacked up to a recommended 6 guitars high (old style was 4 high). My only question, why Fender didn't use a similar Battery (power) system as they did on the new Acoustasonic Telecaster? Which uses a rechargeable battery hidden inside the guitar with USB output (located right beside the output jack) . A long USB cord comes with and only needs to be recharged every 20hrs of use. Would Look better than having the two plastic covers on the back. Thanx For another Great Vid!! Have to say, I'm no bass player either but can understand why you purchased that one.... She is Gorgeous!!

I played bass for many years before I started playing guitar, and yeah, bassists tend to embrace technology more than guitarists do. Personally, I'm not drawn to active basses, but on-board pre-amps and EQ are lot more popular among bassists than guitarists. Solid state amps are more the rule than the exception, too. You don't really hear bass players pining for the good old days of under-powered, unreliable tube amps that weighed a metric ton, and weren't particularly articulate. You see way more guitarists playing vintage Fender Bassman amps than bassists.

Nice. But,... kinda miss old school Trogly's (before you had a name for us). Was at a guitar shop today and the owner had a killer late 90s 60s reissue burst. Thin binding, 2 piece tiger top, nickel hardware (Nashville bridge?) single ring Klusons and pickguard in case. No holes. I like Fenders too brother but the bridges aren't supposed to float. Much respect. Either way keep it up.

The bit on the A tuner is an extension to get a better break angle on the A string...i would prefer if Fender used a single bar across all strings to get a good break angle on all strings, & helps damp a little but i would put a wrap on top of the nut or just behind it to damp out the open string tone...nice Jazz...shame they never took the black binding round the whole edge of neck including front edge of headstock...& or a matching colour headstock same colour as body would be nice imo....nice tone...plus active & passive,kool..

I got exactly the same bass, about to return it for the second time as it came with a fret buzz on the 5th fret for 2/4 strings, for teh second time. First one, tech guy couldn't get rid of the buzz without raising the action more than it was already, and it was quite high out of the box. He suggested that I return it and get another one. Same problem with the second one I got. The tech guy suggested that I play at a lower intensity and get the hang of the bass, but a week later, the fret buzz is just not acceptable live or for recording (nor for the price of the bass). Just wondering if you noticed that issue too and were able to fix it? I didn't hear the buzz on yours. I guess it is bad luck on my side, that or Fender's QC just loves me. I am not even getting picky about the off center screws on the pick guard (both basses suffered from it) or the Philips screw heads that were stripped, again, on both models. At this point you must think the store duped me by giving me back the one I returned, but I checked the serial numbers and they were quite apart, which suggest a different lot maybe. I really want to love that bass and spend this ridiculous amount of money for a bass I probably do not deserve, but that Texas Tea is having a bit of a bittersweet taste already and wondering if I should even try a third one at this point.

I just bought this bass last week. I have been playing 43 years now. I have never had a bass that was this simple to set up. Bar none. It arrived in disappointing shape. I took all the relief out dropped the saddles and viola! the lowest action I have ever played since a friend bought a new Monarch bass back in 1985. I may bring it back up because while there are no dead spots or buzzing it is just too low to my tastes. I do have to say that the neck carve is thinner than the traditional Jazz bass carve it';s not bad, just different. The pickups and EQ system I'm leaving as an unanswered question. I'll have to wait to declare how it sit's in a live mix with my Ampeg SVP pro with QSC power amp and 10" speaker cabs. It should be fine. Reccomended.

Be nice if this becomes a new line and not anything limited (hopefully not), Fender finally going modern.

The A machine has the Fender stealth string guide, to help keep the A string seated better in the nut. I guess some times the A string moves out of the nut slot.

I like the idea of upper fret access. But if you really need why not just get a Neck-Thru?

I hope Fender have fixed the problem with those noiseless pickups (in general - all their noiseless pickups) going open circuit. The lead outs from the upper coils are short, taut and are soldered down almost as soon as they exit the coils. The structure of the pickup is not super rigid, so what happens is that if there is any flexing or shock to the pickup, that lead out wire is stressed and eventually it snaps. Usually it is the wire running to the inside of the coil, so there is no easy fix. I have replaced several sets of noiseless pickup for customers because of this. And what about the infamous 'black fingers' problem with those anodised gold pick guards.

So they have glued on maple cap boards. The binding will mask the joint. Bit odd build feature that they did back in 67 or something like that.

The problem with the screw holes is they're drilled into metal which will expand and contract from one moment to another.

If the action seems high, that's not good as it gets. that's so you can slap without getting a lot of buzz. If you stick to fingerplucking you can get it set up super low and slinky edit: yep, you did set it up pt good

ok, I was agreeing with the high action at the lower registers. I didn't know that too low an action will affect the slap part. I'll leave the action as it for now. Maybe I might get the action lower by sending it to a professional.

Sorry if I missed this point but is this an Ash or Alder body! Whichever it is, it sounds awesome! I wanted to buy one and wanted an ash body. Due to a shortage of ash because of an insect infestation, Fender is only offering ash in their custom soho and master built models. Can’t see spending $4000.00 on what I could just have paid a little over $2000.00 for.

This one is alder. I think all the solid colour models are alder and the natural ones are ash, although they don't seem to be available anymore in natural
