I use this to sidechain my reverb. Works a treat.

There's a patcher preset called Multiband Sidechain, does the same thing

could you link any video you recommend for this? I have tried to do the sidechain method before but have always got hung up on the "turn wet effects off" b/c i use a lot of different vocal plugins like formant shifts and stuff and it hurts my brain heavily to figure out it all out. Is there a way for the sidechain method to just use the vocal information from the lead vox but still keep all the effects on the lead vox as is? Thank you and have a great day

It only works if you’re using eq with parametric eq2 not fabfilter or anything like that I think.

The mix on voice over is really clean man Can we get a tutorial on that ?

I do this using ProMB. Not a quick fix but it works well

This plugin is a lifesaver

Soothe2 is also great for this 👍

I'd never sidechain if it wasn't for this plugin

Also in soothe you can choose to only sidechain the mids or sides or both or blend to taste

U can do the same by clicking the little blue button on the right with this plugin. Both really good plugins though

Would you put this on a chordal instruments bus or also a percussive instrument bus

Oh and be sure to mute any time based effects like verbs and delay throws from printed copy of vocal that’s being sidechained to instrumental

@nafs8466 u could but if u have timebased effects like reverb or delay then dialing in the right blend could get difficult.

@@user-rp9dq8se8t yes print a copy of the vocal without the timebased effects and unlink it from the master fader. Use that print to sidechain to the instrumental in order to carve out space for the main vocal clip. U can get similar results and this is one of many alternatives for those who don’t have Trackspacer.

That is an important skill indeed. Trackspacer is more of a timesaver thing when you don't want your creative flow to get slowed down by having to tweak your settings for too long.

You could also use it creatively if say, you wanted full frequency drums and full frequency bass, both really busy, trackspacer could allow this to work in a way that wouldn’t really be possible without doing mad automation on an eq or using a dynamic eq but this is probably easier

@@Lurkspuryes it does . Put it in mid side mode and use it the same way as trackspacer by carving into the clashing frequencies. Pro q is cleaner keep it in linear phase when u do it too

If you’re recording to a 2-track instrumental that’s already been mixed and it’s just a Wav file or mp3 then I’d put this plugin on the instrumentals mixer track. Then sidechain the vocals signal to the instrumental track. This way the plugin is using the vocal signal as a sidechain input to tell it what frequencies to duck on the instrumental if that makes sense.

What's the difference between this and side chaining dynamic eq?

@PainfuelProductions right on, seems useful. I have Neutron from Izotope and it does the same thing by scanning the side chained track for conflicting frequencies

Or, hear me out, copy or create an audio clip for all vocals, assign it it’s own channel, unroute it from master, sidechain using fruity limiter, use the rule of 3 and ensure your not ducking more than 3db, and play track with original copies of vocals 🤷🏿‍♂️

Not to overdo it.. you could suggest a safe range

Hi Jerry, i am following your instructions and i am using Trackspacer. I have my beat with the trackspacer on it and my vocals sidechained to the beat. What i want is to only export the beat with the final ducking effect but without the vocals, as i am bouncing the beat to a different daw. But no matter what i do every time i export all tracks it seems like no effect has happened and the beat is still the same as before. I am exporting with the effects on and all tracks seperately. Please help 🙏
