And i also told him the same thing you mentioned, with people ripping/downloading artist music to use for other stuff too. This procedure makes your work more traceable for payments anywhere online. Independent recording artist need this information asap.

Kim, In today's market it seems that regular releases make a bigger impact on growing a fan base. So from that standpoint, it makes more sense to break up your album's worth of content into singles, and release them over an extended period of time. Hope this helps.

Copyrighting your music is optional (extra ip protection). Songtrust registers your published works with other PROs throughout the world to collect your publishing royalties on your behalf.

The name of the file is irrelevant, they scan the actual audio file.

No, they let you find it on Spotify after it's been distributed by your digital distributor.

No. They just collect from those that send them royalty dues.

Cozi, it depends on the type of licensing agreement your customers are signing when you're selling them your tracks. You might be completely giving away your right to collect mechanical royalties. You're going to have to look into it.

I see you have to sign up on songtrust & the other site Does the song have to be on TuneCore first before I do this?

The content must be published first prior to needing a publishing admin. Either uploaded on KZread for Adrev, or digitally distributed (tunecore, or any other distributor) for Songtrust.

I don't think so. I think that you have to register for soundscan by yourself. Soundscan reports to billboard for charting... unless you're moving massive volumes, I don't think it's worth the effort to sign up, imo.

Hi I so wish we would've found this video a year ago. In trying to learn this business completely on our own, I think we've made many mistakes. My husband who has been a musician and lover of music for many years just recently discovered the DAW about a year ago many years too late it seems sometimes. Even though it's never too late. He went to sub your channel and realized he was already subbed, yet we missed this video somehow? Probably because he was watching your videos on mixing and mastering which he's learning as he goes.? You don't need adrev, if you get songtrust... they have an internal KZread option in there.

I release my projects officially through digital distributors, so I use Songtrust. However, I've heard many say that Adrev is pretty solid for strictly social media uploads.

It's a tough market to break into. It's a tight niche... so what that usually means is there's not that much competition. However, there's usually less market demand, also. You would start in exactly the same way any other artist would start... releasing records.

Skitta, they only collect on platforms that monetize their content with advertising. KZread does, Facebook does NOT. I don't use instagram, so couldn't really say.

Media uploaded to facebook is not monetized... as far as I know. Posting a link to a monetized KZread video is, however.

So having only a PRO won’t get u paid from streaming services

Correct. PRO is for publishing royalties, and your distributor handles the streaming royalties.
