What I learned from friends during my year abroad was that sayonara has generally a nuance of not seeing one another anymore or an underlining "we go separating ways from now" -feeling embedded into it so mata ne as goodbye is more a "see you again" thing. :)

True, when I’m with my weightlifting friends we often say おっす when meeting at the center. At first I thought it was just a athlete/team thing but then I realized it can be used in other scenarios

I'm in Japan since a month and a half, can have conversations in Japanaese, but I still struggle to know which expressions I should use saying hello to friends 😂 It's the most basic thing but I also have the feeling that all these expressions are mainly used by girls and I can't find what men use to say hello to friends 😂 Sadly there is no man interviewed here, if they use different expressions I would like another intereview male version !

This happened to me when I started with Tagalog -- I learned from a course published in the '50s or '60s so my Filipino friends all say my Tagalog sounds formal or a bit dated. I'm using DuoLingo to learn Japanese and I've seen another video indicating the same things -- that is konichiwa and similar words are considered formal best used with strangers. Love these videos, they never fail to put a smile on my face and I'm beginning to be able to pick out words in the Japanese.

@@tjmixmasta I was fortunate in that I took up the study when I was in the UAE and spending my free time with the large Filipino expat community there. The course I started with was a set of takes and a couple off books so I spent the time listening and speaking and repeating. I need to do that with my Japanese course more -- actually saying it. I also got Filipino music and comics. The music helped at least me, those within earshot were horrified.

it's yet more or less the same thing in any country , learn the language as much as you can , inform yourself about their culture, be confident , organize your attittude, find them in particular places , and don't hesite to tell them "i know you're going to leave me soon for some reason ." and "why you only wants to know things about me and not me?" you dont want to befriend me , you only use me for fun" and then try to proceed over and over as time allow us . and generally people in bigger touristic cities never have the time for new buddies and peasants in the countrysides are often too isolated to being open culturally; ah and that's funny but i used to have japan friends through KZread sections ,good luck.

True! Even those raised in Japan have trouble making Japanese friends just because they are gaijin. And secondly if some Japanese people make friends with a foreigner, their friends will say to them ‘are you friends with this gaijin? Yuk🤮’kind of reaction. Japanese people are one of the fakest I could meet in my life. This whole video is bullshit too.

Definitely not, its also vice versa. A lot of Europeans or Africans that come to Japan stick within their own group and never ever do they interact with the Japanese. Its funny how foreigners try to make a big deal when in reality they themselves never try to make contact and blame the Japanese.

You don't need Japanese friends(Except me ). I'm not that kinds of Japanese. I never say "gajin" many use them around me and that sucksand.🎉Japanese dudes are very insular Except me. Many Japs are not open to non-japanese but some are friendly. And I think there are no border between humans.
