You have this example ready to download from my google drive if you need a quick grid. Link is in the description.
But for those who want to learn how to do it step by step stay with me in this video.
First step is to create a new project that is 800 by 800 pixels in size.
Zoom out a little by holding the alt key and scrolling your mousewheel.
Now hold space to position canvas somewhere in the middle.
Now select the line segment tool.
Hold the shift key and click and drag to make a horizontal line.
Make sure that line is selected and now hold shift alt and keep pressing the right arrow on your keyboard to make multiple lines.
If you need to make these lines denser, go to edit, preferences, general.
Over here change this keyboard increment to be 5px for example.
Select all lines with selection tool v or press ctrl a.
Now group the lines by pressing ctrl + g.
Now select the rotate tool and just press enter.
Rotate by 60 degrees and press copy.
Now press ctrl + c to copy and ctrl + f to paste in front.
Go to the properties panel.
If you don’t see this panel go to the window and select it from the list.
In the properties panel click flip along the horizontal axis.
As you can see the grid is practically ready, but let’s clean things a bit.
Select all grids with ctrl plus a.
Go to the align tool.
Over here select horizontal align center and vertical align center to position grids in the middle.
Now open layers.
Create a new layer.
Hide the previous layer.
Go to the Rectangle tool and draw a rectangle on the canvas.
Now unhide the previous layer and choose the selection tool and select all or press ctrl + a to select all.
Right click and click make a clipping mask.
Now go to layers again and delete the empty layer.
Select the grid layer and change opacity over here.
Now it looks perfect and ready for use.
And this is it. A quick video on how to make an isometric grid in Illustrator.
