This guy is brilliant, I’m so glad I found this channel
This is a real eye-opener for me as a (admittedly avid) consumer of fragrance. It is a great feeling to have such a user-friendly guide to the technical aspects of perfumery: I feel I can use this kind of knowledge to become a better consumer and spend my money more wisely.
Best perfume channel on KZread! Thanks Sam for sharing your knowledge.
I'm taking her scenthusiasm course and it shows the full formula for sexiest scent. Highly recommend

MacerNation RISE UP!!! Bergamot quenching dryness might be the same reason some people (ex Mountain Aromatics) regard bergamot as aquatic. I kinda do too. Things at the triangulation of "citrus", "juicy", and "clean" can give this kind of hydrating aquatic note (as opposed to the drier mineral piny notes of aquatic chemicals like aphermate). Also, do you know of any good resources for finding a bunch of base templates? Especially nature-like accords?
@sammacer

Interesting thought with bergamot. For formulas I would recommend the basenotes forums, people often post what they make

Which website do you buy these raw material from? Is there a website for all the thing needed for a parfume?
This is very informative. Thank you for the video! Although, I have a question whether it is possible to replace galaxolide with something else? Galaxolide is extremely toxic to aquatic life.

Great video Sam. If I were to make the Grosjman Accord @20% strength. Then use that to make a EDP, would I do as follows; 70% alcohol 20%Grosjman Accord (@20% strength) 10 % chosen fragrance composition. Please clarify/confirm. Thanks Asad

Some perfumes list cardamom as a top note and some as a base note. I was wondering how this can be done. I find it blends well with citrus, lavander and woody notes. Cheers
Sorry I’m new and this might be a novice question but when you say to make the base at %20 are you saying that you add the alcohol with the base? Does this mean when you smell the base it’s mixed with the alcohol? When you mix the base are you using the base already mixed with alcohol?

I wonder if tapered glass rods with a loop at the top would be a less wasteful alternative to single use plastic pipettes. Because they can be rinsed off and won't absorb scents from your various raw materials, plus they would be pretty and more cost effective in the grand scheme of things. I dunno. Just popped into my head and thought I'd ask.
@sammacer

Interesting idea - never heard of anyone doing it!
Please could you release your formulair app for android too? I am not finding any suitable alternative for it on this platform.
When you call them "perfume bases" are you saying these are base notes? I see bergamot on one of the formulas and I know that's a top note. Are these accords or are they mini formulas that allow to work on a more complex formulation?
@sammacer
Жыл бұрын
Exactly; in perfumery, confusingly, bases and base notes are completely different. Base notes are the long lasting notes whereas bases are accords with defined proportions, I.e. reproducible base formulas.

Hi Sam i really enjoy watching your videos and i´m learning a lot in this interesting world of perfumery thanks to you. I want to know what porcentage of a grojsman accord should i put in a perfum that has 9 other ingredients. For example, if i have 3 top notes, 3 middle notes, 3 bottom notes and the grojsman accord. I want to do a EDP so i'm doing pre dilutions of 20% of each one of de EO... is that correct? Thank you very much!
Does this still apply if I’m trying to make cologne
Just for my personal interest, as i never made a base before..... if you got your formular perfect in your eyes ( or better nose) and you are going to create a larger amount of the base... the final result will be made of pure materials or still diluted ? And if pure materials, how do you handle solids like vanillin in this case?

.... Can someone tell me how to make petrol and cigarette smelling perfumes.... Please
any one recommend me a perfumery oils shop in germany ?
Great
But what makes a base a base? Is it because of heavy molecular formula ? Like do cedar oil evaporate slower than mint oil ? That doesnt make sense to me , i wish someone would explain because i dont think thats how big perfumers create disgner perfumes.
@sammacer
Жыл бұрын
Be careful to distinguish between bases (formulas) and base notes (long lasting things). Molecular formula isn’t too important. Cedarwood does evaporate slower than mint. Perfumers use both bases and base notes to create designer fragrances - but you need a lot of skill on top of that
great
I'm very curious why some brand have dupe or clone..is it really easy to replicate a parfume ? They might be get the notes from fragrantica..is it true ? I'm just guessing 😆
@sammacer

No, it’s not as a easy as looking at fragrantica. They analyse it in a lab using a machine called GCMS. A skilled technician can clone perfumes that way.

Is a perfume base always part of the basenotes? I guess if you take a perfume base and dosage it lower it can also be considered as the heart? Or what do you think?

Nope, bases and base notes are different in perfumery. Bases are formulas and base notes are long lasting notes. The two can, but don’t necessarily, overlap
