    Will try this recipe.....I see you stopped at medium to thick trace. Will it still thicken in a few days if I am being lazy and stop mixing further after light trace is achieved? Or do u recommend going all the way to a thick trace for this liquid soap recipe? Thanks

  • @GentleLivingShop

    @GentleLivingShop

    10 ай бұрын

    If you stop mixing after light trace the soap batter will probably have a harder time reaching thick trace and may result in seperation of oil and lye. But if you fancy a try anyway do make sure to insulate the soap batter very well to keep in the heat to help with saponification.

    Hi, .... great video....can this liquid soap be used for washing clothes or dishes.....my liquid soap is leaving white soap marks on the dishes and does not easily clean out grease, what can be the reason? And how much excess coconut oil to add if I want to superfat your recipe to 5% coconut oil instead of 1%?

  • @GentleLivingShop

    @GentleLivingShop

    10 ай бұрын

    Hi, yes this soap can be used for washing clothes and dishes. The white marks your liquid soap is leaving may be because the soap has not been cured completely. Or if you have hard water in your area the white marks could be soap scum. The way to reduce soap scum would be to add citric acid and/or salt to your soap recipes. Soap scum is not harmful and can easily be clean with vinegar + baking soda. Higher superfat in a liquid soap recipe is not recommened because it tends to result in free-flowing (unsaponifies) oils in the final product. However, if you would still like to increase the superfat from 1% to 5% in this particular recipe, simply reduce the potassium hydroxide (90% purity) from 84.81g to 81.38g.

    Nice but I have doubt,after 3 weeks also my liquid cloudy for that what to do

  • @GentleLivingShop

    @GentleLivingShop

    Жыл бұрын

    If your liquid soap is cloudy it does not affect the quality of it. Many different things could cause cloudy soap and it is in our opinion pointless to pursue a 100% clear liquid soap. But if you must, to get clearer liquid soap you should: --- use 100% distilled water in the soapmaking process as well when dissolving the soap paste --- use as little superfat in your recipe as possible --- use heat to speed up and complete the saponification process (search: hot-process liquid soapmaking in a slow cooker) --- Even if you don't follow the tips above, dissolved soap paste will usually clear up if you leave it to sit for 24 hours as the cloudiness will settle.

    There is no need to let the lye cool down. The natural heat of the lye solution will actually help the soap saponify.

  • @GentleLivingShop

    @GentleLivingShop

    4 ай бұрын

    Yes you certainly can use any other type of oils, although some oils (like olive) are called soft oils, which means it takes much longer for the soap batter to trace. You could consider heating the soap batter up to speed up the process. To calculate the amount, we like to use this online calculator (www.soapmakingfriend.com/soap-making-recipe-builder-lye-calculator).

    Why KOH is using only for liquid soap when it can get harden ? Can we put it into soap molds purpose for bathing soap?

  • @GentleLivingShop

    @GentleLivingShop

    2 жыл бұрын

    Soap made entirely with KOH hardens into a paste that is squishy and will not keep the shape from soap moulds. If you use the KOH soap paste in the shower it will also dissolve much faster than bar soaps made with NaOH (sodium hydroxide).

  • @GentleLivingShop

    @GentleLivingShop

    8 ай бұрын

    Olive oil is a soft oil, it is slower to saponify compared to coconut oil which is maybe why your recipe did not thicken. You can heat the soap batter on low heat while stirring (hot-process soapmaking) or use a stick blender. Traditional Castile (olive oil) soap without heat or stick blending takes hours to thicken so patience is your friend! (read more about it: korenhelbig.com/homemade-soap-traditional-castile/)
