    It's great finding an unreliable brand no one else will touch. Customers are happy that you carry everything with you. I used to fit 3 control boards a day I knew every part and sensor resistance to check and a pump lead to bypass drain the water. The local manufacturing service would delay parts, so I sourced genuine from the source country saving myself 70% on for example 50 inlet valves a month that cost $27 locally if they had any.

    Was in basic appliance repair on a part time basis about 10 years ago. I absolutely loved it. Getting back into now and I have to admit, it is somewhat intimidating because of the electronics. Thankfully I have a background in electronics, so I’m muddling through it, again on a part time basis. I’m also recycling and reselling. And again I love it. Retiring in a little over a year in my present job and I’m looking forward to doing this full time. I love it. I wish I did this when I was younger. So I’m digging into KZread looking to see what’s going on with todays repairs. That’s how I stumbled on your channel. I’m hoping to get some good advice. I look forward to watching more. Thank you.

    It's cuz they are guaranteed to break after 2 years and the cost of fixing it even with the warranty is about $700 ( the lg fridge) and on the repair side you will replace the compressor the a week or month later will need to go back for the evap.

    I started my home service business in 2021, I do a range of interior and exterior jobs but started getting more and more appliance repair calls especially for dryers and have gotten to know them very well. The profit margin is great & I've come to prefer doing it over any of the other work I do. I'm in the middle of transitioning to appliance repair only. My business is a LLC, I'm located in South Alabama, I have my license of course as well as insurance etc. Im trying to figure out what licensing if any I need in Alabama for appliance repair. I know most states require some type of appliance repair training but I haven't found anything saying that for Alabama.

  • @theapplianceprofit

    South Carolina has no special requirements! It won't be difficult to find out about Alabama. And that's awesome that you are getting them appliance repair calls. It's a really good business. It almost spoils you being able to make that much money and not doing such hard work! Haha 😄

    My hold up on appliance business is finding competent employees or subcontractors. Also does Samsung and LG require any vendor requirements to receive their parts or service manuals? Thanks in advance

  • @theapplianceprofit

    @theapplianceprofit

    Жыл бұрын

    I completely understand that about the employees! I try to find younger, but mature people. It seems that the younger guys can adapt quickly to these new electronic appliances. As far as parts, no requirements since you would purchase thru a distributor. As far as manuals, yes and no. If you try to go directly to them for manuals, yes you will have to be authorized, but there are ways around it by going thru 3rd party resources. Appliance manufacturers are some of the most secretive people ever haha. Commercial appliances on the other hand, they are happy to help.

One question I had for you is what are some programs or courses that you took to step your skills on appliance diagnosing to the next level? Honestly, in the beginning, I did something that most people won't do. I got my hands on as many different service manuals for as many different appliances possible and I literally studied them. And then I worked on those units and used the manual as my guide. And I got extremely good at it.

    I just started a used appliance business (i still have another full time job) but im curious where do bigger companies like your get your pricing. Because 300 of a heating element is insane. I just tell the customer to bring the dryer to me and pay for the part and i will put it in for 100. Some think me prices are low. But i have sole 183 units since march 3 average price per unit 172. And that all from my garage. I undercut all the bigger companies. And my business is spreading alot faster then expected. Be i just dont feel comfortable changing high prices for easy repairs.

    I noticed that you mentioned in another comment that you don't do warrant work anymore. I'm curious to know if there is/are a certain reason(s), such as lower return rates or other obstacles, that resulted in your position. I have considered starting an appliance repair business for a few years. The market in my aredoesn'tnt have much to offer in appliance repair, so it could potentially be a hot market. I have learned on my own for years and know that there are things on the technical side i need to learn, which i am looking into that currently. But the warranty work option is something I'm curious about the pros and cons. Thank you for any insight and/or information you can pass on.

  • @theapplianceprofit

    @theapplianceprofit

    Жыл бұрын

    A couple of the biggest reasons that I don't like doing warranty works is: 1. They usually don't pay that much. In my experience, I can make like 3 times as much doing a regular cod call vs warranty call. 2. Sometimes, you don't get paid at all! The warranty company can reject your claim for the dumbest reasons and simply never pay you. But I do understand that for people starting off, it's a great way to get service calls. You just have to weigh the options.

    My biggest struggle with LG and Samsung is there tech sheet are horrid and parts diagrams are also horrid. Any advice would be great. The good thing with there products is that they have the same failures all the time. There usually is not a whammy like Whirlpool crap products. I am also the only one in the area that works on those products but I am going in blind. I worked with just Whirlpool for ten years and now doing my own business and samsung/lg are very big in my area of work.
