Make Bath Bombs like Lush: the Ultimate Guide to Ingredients and Reactions!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Ingredients & Reactions Explained! Learn the secret to making creative bath bombs just like LUSH!!! Lush uses 2 different recipes; a slow foaming recipe for the exterior & a vigorous recipe for the interior. Ingredients & reactions are explained in order to achieve these specific results/reactions! Each ingredient in this tutorial yields a completely different reaction in water! RECIPE: I made a huge batch of dry ingredients: 30 ounces baking soda, 15 ounces citric acid, & 5 ounces corn starch (sieved together & mixed up well). For each bath bomb: I took 3 ounces of this dry mix (measured it on scale) put it in a bowl, then added 1 milliliter of fragrance oil & 2 milliliters of the specific ingredient being tested [each ingredient is named in tutorial]. I only tested 2 dry ingredients, (sodium alginate & Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate). For the dry ingredients, I added 5 milliliters fragrance oil, & 2 milliliters of witch hazel (instead of water). NOTE: The more of 1 ingredient that you use may enhance the specific reaction that you're going for, but it may also accidentally stunt the bomb all together, making it a “dud”. Which does nothing except SLOWLY foam for a long time; there's no fizz, bubbles, or fluffy foam, or fun. A "dud" bomb produces thin, wispy foam that disappears right away.

    As a natural soap/candle maker for over 25 years. People should stop buying over priced bath n body stuff like Lush. There are tons of smaller companies that do it better and cost much less! Great Video!😉

But, I was actually worried, & thought "not many people are going to like this... it's not creative.. it's just experimental results... yada yada". But, this is how I taught myself how to make bath bombs. So I knew there'd be at least a FEW people that really appreciated it! But I'm just so happy that you guys seem to really enjoy it. Great videos. Question about measuring though - many bomb recipes call for "cups" vs ouces or grams. And while 1 c of baking soda may weigh 8 oz, 1 c of citric acid may weigh almost 10 ounces. So a basic conversion of 1 c to 8 oz and 1/2 c to 4 oz would give "incorrect" ratios? because it would actually be 8 oz baking soda to 5 oz citric acid (which is not 2:1). Should actual oz weights be used (8:5 oz) or basic conversion weights (8:4oz)?

    Normally you can paint bath bombs after they’re dry with mica and a small brush. Dissolve it first with 99% alcohol so you don’t activate it.

    Thank you so much for your videos. I do have a few questions. I noticed while showing the ingredients in one of your videos it shows Epsom salts but I didn’t see you add it. Do you recommend it!?Also, since you use Polysorbate and Coco Betaine, do they foam and bubble? PS I’m in Louisiana too, I know all too well about the humidity. Lol.

  • @CreativeBathLab

    @CreativeBathLab

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, LA is a hot & humid place. We won’t have power for another 2 weeks since Hurricane Ida so I’ve really been experiencing the hot & humidity on a whole new level! lol. Which video (for the Epsom salts)? Polysorbate is just an emulsifier, so no action there. Coco betaine is a surfactant & a foam booster.

    @@CreativeBathLab wait.... You need a carrier oil if using an essential oil so it doesn't create skin irritation. Essential oils are extremely concentrated and tend to cause irritation if not diluted with some sort of carrier oil.

    Great video! It is very helpful. Would you be so kind to answer a few clarifying questions: Did you add 2ML of Castile Soap to the dry mix to create that bubbly perfection? If an embed is added to the bath bomb, would more Polysorbate need to be added to the original bath bomb recipe to prevent discoloration of the tub? Total newbie here who for some reason thinks they can actually make these things haha. I watched both of your Lush-like videos and appreciate the information and great visuals. I'm just trying to combine the two videos to see what I should experiment with. Do you find that the dry or the liquid ingredients make the most impact? Also, I noticed you just used a fragrance oil without using a carrier oil. Is that typical or just for demonstration purposes?

  • @CreativeBathLab

    @CreativeBathLab

    First, you can 100% make anything that I do - it just takes practice! 2nd, I never do anything for demonstration purposes only. If you see it in the video, that's how I do it for real. Carrier oil isn't necessary here. I cant tell you which ones to experiment with first- just get in there & do it! Good luck & have fun!
