as a 50 yr. Master florist,NEVER,NEVER USE SCISSORS TO CUT ANY FLOWER STEM!!!! USE A VERY SHARP pairing knife to make a slant cut.. scissors will crush the stem inter workings so water will not be able to transverse up the stem!! Therefore a shorter life for your flowers!!!

You can also just do a spoon full of sugar, aspirin, and a little bleach or vinegar. They keep the flowers fresh, especially roses. ☺️

Beautiful home! A tip for flower lovers. If the stems of your flower is “woody”, ie, like sunflower stems, etc., don’t just put them in water. The won’t last long because they aren’t getting enough water. Instead, cut your stem on the diagonal ( like she did), place the flower on absorbent cloth or whatever you use, take a game and gentle crush the end if the stem until the givers separate. Don’t beat the heck out of thing. Just about 1 1/2 inches. This opens up the woods stem so water can now travel to the top to feed the flowers. The flowers will last longer, but resist this process if you see the water is getting stale and cloudy. Examples are Delphinium, Lupin, Amaryllis, Mollucella/bells-of-Ireland, Dahlias, and Hollyhocks, etc. The stems of hollow-stemmed flowers, such as, need to be filled with water, most commercially grown hollow stemmed flowers are grown for their suitability to draw the water up the stems naturally. There are sone flowers that exude a but if sap. The stem will feel sticky. Don’t use the above method. Instead, cut the stem the length you want and immerse the fresh cut stem ends in boiling water for ten seconds, or hold them over a candle flame until the ends are sealed. Water will be absorbed through the cell walls of the stems. Solid woody stems that do not exude sap do not require cauterization.

The supermarkets in my city and the surrounding area has all kinds of bouquets for sale every day. They range from just $5.99 to $24.99. I’m sure yours must have similar. I try to always have fresh flowers on my kitchen table every day. Some flowers I get at the supermarket last 2 weeks!!! So, to spend as little as $12 a month is a small price for some beauty to look at every day! 😉😁

Any clear fizzy drink works well, because the water diffusion will change the colour of the flowers at the top, if the drink is a bright colour, and you don't want that. At the opposite side, if you have kinda bland looking white or white-ish cheap flowers, you can change the colour using sugary water with food colouring. Maybe even use a fizzy sugary drink and put FC in it in whatever colour you want. Put less colour than you want it to turn though, because the colour intensifies as more is sucked up. The science of the fizzy drink thing is that the sugar in the fizzy drink feeds the flowers and the fizz lowers the water's PH, so the flowers can take in more of the nutrients. So it prolongs how your live flowers last. 💜

You can also just do a spoon full of sugar, aspirin, and a little bleach or vinegar. They keep the flowers fresh, especially roses. ☺️

Beautiful home! A tip for flower lovers. If the stems of your flower is “woody”, ie, like sunflower stems, etc., don’t just put them in water. The won’t last long because they aren’t getting enough water. Instead, cut your stem on the diagonal ( like she did), place the flower on absorbent cloth or whatever you use, take a game and gentle crush the end if the stem until the givers separate. Don’t beat the heck out of thing. Just about 1 1/2 inches. This opens up the woods stem so water can now travel to the top to feed the flowers. The flowers will last longer, but resist this process if you see the water is getting stale and cloudy. Examples are Delphinium, Lupin, Amaryllis, Mollucella/bells-of-Ireland, Dahlias, and Hollyhocks, etc. The stems of hollow-stemmed flowers, such as, need to be filled with water, most commercially grown hollow stemmed flowers are grown for their suitability to draw the water up the stems naturally. There are sone flowers that exude a but if sap. The stem will feel sticky. Don’t use the above method. Instead, cut the stem the length you want and immerse the fresh cut stem ends in boiling water for ten seconds, or hold them over a candle flame until the ends are sealed. Water will be absorbed through the cell walls of the stems. Solid woody stems that do not exude sap do not require cauterization.

@@betsygray9505 She didn’t use a third of them in that one arrangement. That amount of flowers could make 4 of those arrangements. The supermarkets in my city and the surrounding area has all kinds of bouquets for sale every day. They range from just $5.99 to $24.99. I’m sure yours must have similar. I try to always have fresh flowers on my kitchen table every day. Some flowers I get at the supermarket last 2 weeks!!! So, to spend as little as $12 a month is a small price for some beauty to look at every day! 😉😁

Any clear fizzy drink works well, because the water diffusion will change the colour of the flowers at the top, if the drink is a bright colour, and you don't want that. At the opposite side, if you have kinda bland looking white or white-ish cheap flowers, you can change the colour using sugary water with food colouring. Maybe even use a fizzy sugary drink and put FC in it in whatever colour you want. Put less colour than you want it to turn though, because the colour intensifies as more is sucked up. The science of the fizzy drink thing is that the sugar in the fizzy drink feeds the flowers and the fizz lowers the water's PH, so the flowers can take in more of the nutrients. So it prolongs how your live flowers last. 💜
