I never would have thought someone could make their own good reliable hydrometer. Well, anyone but you you Jack! Your zero clearance insert did its job. Nice build.

My fiancé and I recently ( a couple months ago ) bought a late 1800s Baldwin upright piano made of Cherry. This is a good idea as I also like to do woodworking and learned how to tune it so I also bought a tuning hammer and mutes/felt. I use a tuning app that I found online and it's worked out pretty well so far...Thanks for the videos!

I love this project Jack. I made a wooden hydrometer after watching your previous video on making the larger one. It works OK but the deflection from dry to humid is rather small. It measures 20 inches long and the most deflection I've seen is only a little more than 1 inch. I'm going to try making another one using two different species of wood.

i don't know what i would use that for but it is pretty cool. I bet it comes in handy when you are working on pianos and the swelling of parts?

That is neat. I imagine you give these to your clients for them to keep track? I have many tuning settings on my digital piano; I wish I knew what they actually meant first hand, rather than just hearing the differences. I prefer a grand piano, but at least a digital piano never goes out of tune ; )

Another great idea Jack. I like this and your larger version. I may attempt this build in the future, as there are parts of my shop where I need to check the humidity levels. Thanks for the video and hope you're well.

I'll probably do a video on my build. Subscribe and you won't miss it. ;-) My next video will be me extending my DeWalt DW7480 contractor saw table. I've never seen a video on extending that particular saw, so it could be interesting. I need more table surface area on that saw asap. So I should have that done and a video up withing the next couple of weeks. Hopefully sooner. Hope you're well Jack.

Very nice build Jack. For the pointer, could a piece of thin 3 ply plywood with one removed work as a pointer, or does it matter that one ply is thicker than the other? I'd like to build a wall mounted version for my shop.
